I play the Vanguard quite a bit.  Don't have the adept yet.

I understand the concept. I saw Sy7ar's videos. I saw Stardusk use it. I saw Tankcommander use it. I saw Stentron use it.

to fix it it seemsthe best way to keep all happy is to add a damage reduction to the animation, and to stagger ALL enemies in range, only damage 2/3 of them.

if nothing else its better than its current state

Then the problem seems to be with your execution of said concept... I don't want to be a dick and tell you to L2P, but you're being a little silly...

My problem with the character is that I refuse to wallspam Smash... it gets me killed alot. Regardless, I refuse to sit there and hump a wall while spamming a power... it's why I hate Biotic Slash so much. When I started relying heavily on the melee and stopped trying to cause Biotic Explosions... I enjoyed the character more.

I HATE Biotic Slash and I'm not a wall hugger. But there is no denying that Phoenixes lack.

Phoenixdept- 200 waves done, all on gold or plat. I put up some plat gameplay on my Youtube channel. Regularly outscore very good players with him on both levels.

Phoenixguard- Not that much, generally don't host very often so don't play my vanguards all that much. Am planning to start playing him more often so I can master him though.

For sure.... they lack the fitness to stand up to the beating Smash can subject them to. Therefore... buff the base shields.

And speed. And 40% DR during Smash.

Now were talking Dragoon.

Phoenix Adept is probably my favorite adept.  As for Smash I don't think it sucks, but the CD combined with the lower number of targets affected by it sort of diminishes its usefulness.  AirQuotes was right to compare it to Biotic Slash, though, because it's a power that has similar purpose and has been adapted to similar use on a class whose other two powers don't synergize very well.

That being said, I never skip Biotic Slash on the Slayer and I max Smash on the Adept.  It's his bread and butter boss killer as far as I care, and if you use soft cover intelligently it does its job well.

Smash has low synergy cos of CD.

Same could be said for biotic slash. Even moreso.
In fact, because of this on a vanguard, smash > slash. Every other ability the slayer has is a better choice to max out/put more than 3 points in than slash. On the other hand, the ex-cerb has charge, smash and lash. Lash is totally useless on him, so it's an easy choice to not even bother speccing into.

I actually played the slayer last night and forgot he even had slash. When I use the cerbguard, I smash quite a bit.

I don't like the adept, but I quite enjoy playing the vanguard. Along with the AV, he feels more like an ME2 style VG. I even spec into weapon damage for his chage.

If all this is true then Bioware must buff the damage or take out the target limit.

But Dragoons lack: Lash, Biotic Charge, Singularity, Shields, Consumable Equipment and are stuck using a freakin' Hornet....

Longer range and target limit. Damage is okay with Armor and Barreir evo.

Or buff base shields and movement speed to all Phoenixes and give 40% DR during Smash.

I'm not having a Dragoon discussion. They are a garbage addition.

I know the discussion is about Smash, and I know people like to spec out of Lash because "it sucks", but am I the only one who fully specs Lash and pwns phantoms with the Smash and Lash combo? I mean, even if they block the Smash, they still prime for the Lash BE...

On topic though, I think Smash is pretty good, although I agree that its range and exposure to damage is pretty high risk. Extra fitness and some type of DR would make him super solid.

Hmn. Let's see...Both with passive training, both in a post charge situation with a power amp 4

My Smash ends up dealing over 4200 EXCLUDING the dot. If the Dot is a flat 50% applied to the total damage, you're looking at 6300 total damage with the Dot being stackable.

Slash does 2500

:| Your argument is bad.

Certainly more than I do with their vanilla human counterparts.

Admittedly haven't played the Cerb Vanguard since the patch, but when singularity sucked I played him quite a bit.

My suggestions - at LEAST 10-12 meter range, at LEAST 2 meters wide, unlimited number of targets hit, and it should stagger everyone who touches you in the beggining of the animation when you drop your whips to the ground. Dragoon whips do that.

I like the thought of it being a close range damage dealer, so I'd rather have the range be short, but it needs some sortof boost...the radius however? Gotta be wider, mich wider. Stagger is the best part of your suggestion by far. Also rather than an unlimited amount of targets, they should really just not have swarmers count for power use. That'd save everyone butthurt without letting people run into a spawn and smash all the things...and end up dying half the time they try it but still-

Phoenix classes are only good on small maps if you actually plan to frequently use Smash.

I doubt that will change even if you double the range of Smash.

At least you can smash trough some thicker cover. And it needs to hit more targets. Hitting a Ravager and doing no damage is fkn ridicilous.

Yeah a bit more range would be nice. A little bit less cooldown would be nice too.

But don't expect it to hit an unlimitted number of targets. Snap Freeze can only hit a maximum of 3 targets, for example.

TheKillerAngel wrote...

Even if Smash is a boss killing ability, the Cerbguard is not a boss killer. Bosses all have some kind of stagger, dot, or massive damage, and the cerbguard is too squishy to absorb that sort of punishment. He's better at killing infantry.

What.

My Cerb Adept burns through Banshees and Brutes like a hot knife through butter. On Gold. With 3 points in Fitness and no Cyclonics.

The problem is that it's only doable on a small map like White or Glacier, and preferably with other Biotics.

Perhaps they should buff the movement speed and HP of the Phoenix classes, so that they can get in close on large maps without dying, like Dragoons do.

There is your caveat. Just about any AoE biotic class is effective under these circumstances. On large maps, playing the cerbguard is more often a mix of charging, heavy melee attacks, shooting, with the occasional smash, preferably done through an object as cover.

In all honesty, I agree. However, if it had unlimited targets, it'd probably be OP. Hell, you could probably get killstreaks with it.
