If the Mage Rebellion has a face, what sort of person do you think they should be?

I feel as though I've wandered into a round table meeting of Templars

Neutral Snarky Hawke is here to support you!:wizard:
I like both templar and mage's portrayal (as a group) in DAO, and it'd have made a choice between them difficult. The choice was still difficult to take in DA2, though it was because I hate both groups's portrayal. I have shift my decision process from "which group is better/deserve my help more" to "which group is worse/deserve my help less". It was one of the most disappointing part of DA2 to me.
I hope that the portrayal of the groups is more similat to DAO than DA2. Otherwise, I might like opening a portal to bring Harby and closing the issue in its way.

Anders, for many reasons which I do not have the time to type down right now, but I'll give a few short examples why:

He is the very embodiment of justice and vengeance (both in his personality and because of the fade spirit being a part of him).

He passionately fights for freedom for all Mages, whatever the cost, and whatever the risk to his own life.

He is not a very well known person prior to the end of DA2, which sometimes can be the perfect person to lead a rebellion for the many. Why? Because he represents the very people he is fighting for, he is one of them, one of the many.

Every mage is "one of the many", unless the leader of the rebellione will be a former magister, who are nobility in Tevinter.
As for being the "embodiement of justice/vengeance", I wouldn't trust a spirit who was ready to kill the same person his host is supposed to protect, just because she was (rightfully, considering Ander's appareance and her already frightened stat) terrified and called him a monster.

The description of the spirit healer specialization mentions that the common people trust healers more than other types of mages. Then again, Anders was also a spirit healer. If we're talking about the leader who would be most successful, then I believe a spirit healer with a more diplomatic and calm temperament, not a terrorist. This leader would need to be charismatic as well in order to draw people to his/her cause. As to the particular flaws this leader should have to make him or her interesting from a character perspective, I'm not sure. I wouldn't want a repeat of Anders, as much as I found him interesting. I'm pro-mage (though my Hawke helped innocent people in general, including Templars), yet Anders still annoyed me on many occasions.

I think the mage leader would need to show his/her willingness to work with the Chantry to find a solution. The volatile situation of the Mage-Templar war might mean that the situation is ripe for a leader to step up and make a change for mages.
