Hi. I'm playing Harp & Chrisantemum with a Bard 1/Ranger 6 with Natural Bond, but the animal companion is stuck at the lowest possible level (here's the level progression). Similarly, one of the companions is a 7th level cleric with the Animal domain, and his companion is in the second level tier (3-5).

I've played this module before and I don't recall anything like this happening. I'm going to try with an empty Override, but I don't think that what I have in there is affecting it. Any idea?

Actually, it looks like this is the problem (I should have checked that before opening a new thread...). I'm using the latest version. The module hasn't been updated in a long time (before SoZ came out, I think), if that makes any difference.

hey Ark,

haven't looked at this in a while but here goes ...


1. Are you playing with Kaedrin's installed?
2. Are you summoning using a Preparation?
3. If you look in the Metaprepa (Override)->spells_assoc folder and rename 'nw_s2_animalcom.nss/.ncs' to '_bak' files (ie. temporarily rename them so they don't have an effect), then reload the game and summon yer critter does it appear at the level it should?

So let me get this straight. The 7th Cleric should have a companion of level 5. The 1st Bard/6th Ranger w/ Natural Bond should have a companion of level ... 3

Hi kevL. Thanks for the reply.

1) No. Not compatible.

2) No, just normal summoning. I haven't tried it through a preparation (I can if necessary).

3) Yes, they appear at the correct level after renaming those files.

Both should be level 5 (level 6-8 range).

Edit: I tested it further in Vordan's Hero Creator, with a wolf and a dinosaur. The dino seems to level up fine for some reason, but I got the bug with the wolf.

ok found it, thinking up a fix ...

( you can leave those files renamed as a workaround ; they apply only to K's PrC pack tho you won't be able to prepare Animal Summons regardless )
