Wait a sec, I just thought...how was the romance discussion board worse than this one that it had to be perma locked? If this board causes the devs so much stress, why wouldn't they do it to this one?

I'm not advocating that action, just wondering what the constituents for the romance board were worse than this one.

Every activity when brought to its most basic level sounds dumb. Motor Racing? Bunch of cars driving around in circles all day. Football (all codes)? A bunch of dudes chasing a ball around all day. Again, it's counter-productive to complain about such things in public.  First of all, it does impact all fans (no matter how guilty or innocent) negatively and it does one other thing-it makes a lot of people wonder what you did wrong as a company to make peopel hate you.  It negatively impacts you as a person or a company.

This is a major tenet of Customer Service-you don't air your dirty laundry in public.  It is also something that on other forums that I've participated in, is not allowed.  Members who do things wrong are handled.  And moderators/employees are not allowed to have a pissing match in public.  Now, I don't think all fan sites can be or are handled this way, but company sites should be.  BW has employees using twitter and blogging to ****** and moan about fans.  That can do far more harm than any good and we can even see its effects here.  It has got people angry at the blogger and angry with each other.  That really helped to change the atmosphere here.  There's another old saying that does apply-lead, follow, or get out of the way.  As I see it, work to make it less toxic, support those who try to, or ignore the negativity and don't advertise it if you are not willing or able to help.

Yes, these kinds of incidents are appalling of course.

But they are also the easiest to deal with. Just IP ban the offenders, end of story. And these types of people shouldn't be any kind of representation of the BSN anyway, because if they were, they wouldn't have abused him because they knew they'd be perma-banned.

It's the slyer ones that are harder to deal with because they try to do it without breaking any site rules.

EAware possibly finally realized the amount of damage the romance creeps were doing to their brand and reputation.

It's downright disturbing how these cheesy "romances" that consist of a few brief convos and a one minute "love" scene that is at best 1% of game time is enough content to justify  threads with several hundred pages worth of discussion.

I really need to get some sleep, but this thread is just too good. Also, might actually create a nostalgia group. Not a public group that anyone can join, mind you, since I want to keep certain individuals out, but anyone who wants some positivity and fun times can join.

On topic though, this thread has pretty much proved Gaider right.

Gaider makes several great points throughout the blog. Several which I am afraid certain posters on this site and other forums will never truly understand. Unfortunately, BSN is not an enjoyable place to participate in. "Passionate" fans on this site have caused several to leave and just never look back. There is so much negativity and bitterness that it turns off potential posters. BSN is referred to as a dark place for Bioware fans on other sites and is often associated with the Quarian sweat thread. I tend to lurk for new info on DLC pieces or new content such as DA3 or future ME3 DLC, but hesitate to engage in discussing with others on this site. BSN for me tends to weigh on me and begins to change my very outlook on the game. The longer I engage or participate with BSN, the more depressing and critical my outlook on Bioware games becomes. While I hope for more ending content (post-Cronos DLC) to give more replayability incentive, I am actually taking a break from Mass Effect altogether until May along with all other forum discussions to focus on school and give me peace of mind. I wish Bioware the best and hope ME3 future content does smooth over fan and DEV relationships, and I eagerly await for DA3. I should go.
