Fair point but if they do that..they will lose the critical feedback from fans because we don't want to get banned for posting something against Bioware or suggesting that they should change stuff

& then they will keep on making games ...Games with no feedback, no input & we will get mad even more...

It is a privilege, but imagine how decrepit it would be if people could no longe voice their opinions. The majority would leave.

Well. There is voicing your opinion.

And then you have threads like these....

Imagine you get a letter in the mail (While living in the United States) from the federal government saying that it is now illegal to offer any criticism of any belief system, the president, congress, and any political parties. Having a tough mod invasion would be very similar to that.

The ponies.. they aren't working.. screw it.

Gaider's blog post is blatant flamebait. Sorry. Is he TRYING to stir up Heplergate 2.0?

"Well, you guys are a bunch of malignant @ssholes, but I still want to say you're entitled to your opinion." That's basically what that blog boils down to.

Cmon. Spare me.

If you hate the community's general attitude and tone that is FINE. But publicly criticizing it expecting no backash, like it won't cause problems or be held against you? That's analogous to a waiter saying you smell like **** and then demanding additional tip money. Don't insult us publicly and then expect us to be all sunshine and rainbows about it. That is inexcusably STUPID. Cramming your writings full of weasel statements does not change the effect.

Yes, this community is often very hostile and very partisan. You'd have to be dumb, deaf, and blind not to notice it. However, whining about it on the internet is about the worst course of action you could take, spare whining about it in a publicized interview. It puts you on the same level as those you despise. You go from Bioware writer, still revered by some, to just another whiner.

Step up, rise above, and tough it out.

Well have you noticed that not everyone is as capable of writing things down as are others?  Have you not noticed that sometimes things that are truly wonderful come in ugly packages.  I once knew a woman that hated my guts merely because I was her supervisor and saw her doing things that could have injured her-I told her not to do them so she would not be hurt.  She hated authority of any kind.  Nothing I did worked, though I was not trying to get her to like me, but merely make it possible to work together.  One day her father died and no one else (people really didn't like her) showed her any sympathy.  But I did and she had really hated me.  After that day she couldn't be nicer to me and she began to be nice to everyone.  It took a spark to help and she needed the job-it turned her life around.

So, sure people don't always say things that fit our idea of how they should say things-many say them in inappropriate ways, but there's a "poem" that always meant the world to me that says it all.  Desiderata.  The dull and ignorant have a story too.

It's worse in writing than in person because sometimes things are not truly understood and you may read the hundredth post where someone has tried to explain their feelings to the same person (believe me it's happened to me-there are people that insist I include quotes for statements I make and then never respond when I do and then repeatedly ask for the same thing over and over again, still never responding).

Also, I have a pretty decent sized friend's list (not because I'm all that friendly or anything) and I've gotten messages from people who apologize for not being able to write well, things I could misunderstand and interpret badly, but I bottom line it.  I try to really understand what they are trying to say to me and I don' imagine bad intent.  I also tell them especially if they are not English speaking that there's no reason to apologize.  Writing for meaning is difficult, especially in a text messaging world.

And I disagree vehemently that the majority of posts here are not by keen and intelligent posters.  As one who has participated and written a lot (too much, I know), I can say that even people that I don't agree with contain those qualities as well as those that I do agree with.  It's one of the things I've enjoyed the most about this forum-the great and lively, interesting debate.  If you can't or haven't seen it, well I'm sorry for you then.

Well; good.

There's opinions where people didn't like the ending because it didn't blend well with established themes, lore and narrative with good CONSTRUCTIVE comments like adding in more foreshadowing or filling in perceivable 'plot holes'.

Then there's the extreme vitriol and snide remarks (even in this thread) that could well be done without.

If the signal-to-noise ratio is declining; it's time to re-tune the radio.

So basically the bsn **** it's pants, and bioware is in the wrong for calling it out on ****ting it's pants as a waiter thinking of the other guest there.

BSN has a very big problem, and that problem is that it likes to criticize harshly on everything, and has skin as thick as a half-a-waifer when it comes to discussing it's problems.

Many people here post that Bioware will not be able to cater to all the fans demands but let's face it, this is what fans really want from ME right now :-

-Happy ending with Shepard being actually alive & enjoying their time with their loved ones. Blue babies, home on Rannoch, wedding with Ashley / Miranda / Kaidan / Traynor . Wedding & home on Palaven. Thane cured.
-Conventional victory. Shepard has faught & won the conventional way in the past two games (by defeating the main villain) so I don't see why we cannot do it for the Reapers. We have a lot of anti Reaper weapons all rallying as a galactic force (Javelin missiles, Thannix cannons, crapload of ships) unlike Javik's time where it was just fighting without unity
-An option to screw Starbrat & win
-An option to save all those who died unnecessary deaths or those who just didn't make sense. Legion is a software, he should have copy & pasted himself into another platform. Thane did unnecessarily. Jacob who abandoned Femshep if she romanced him & impregnated another woman. Nyreen Kandros who was the only balancing force towards Aria's anger & madness.

I think these are not that hard to implement in the game right ? It is an RPG after all. Players should be in control of their character & the story, not the other way around.

Exactly! This is what i have been trying to say. The way you present the criticism is important. Presentation can cloud a good opinion with bad vibes. Which is funny because some of the people you are directing these attacks to are not even involved in what you are angry about *puts on pink panther outfit* Exit stage right

Also when you do come up with any critism, make sure it's constructive and try to present it in the most paletable way possible. Please no abusive remarks! I mean it!

If you feel like being mean towards anyone on the forums I will report you. Since joining BSN I've only used the report button 5 times (in nearly two years). I don't like reporting people and I even overlook really daft spam comments that should be reported.

Do not use the report button, PM a mod. Image IPB

Hmm, best way to deal with registered owners (read: purchasers) of your product is to start a ban-a-thon, especially when you've not tried to do anything else to actually start a real conversation with them?  Sounds good to me.

Actually, the best way to handle it would be to state that at some point and time an open discussion of the events would take place and that certain rules for posting would be strictly adhered to.  A forum could be created where fans would be allowed to ask questions, BW would respond, but each "side" in the debate would have to abide by the set rules.  Create not a fight, but a discussion of the events.  The problem is that in some ways BW is acting too much like a company-they fear being held legally to blame (I think) if they admit they erred or say, lied or misrepresented things.  In other ways they don't act professionally at all, by fomenting anger and hostility by talking about fans elsewhere.

And fans, of course are responsible for how they act as well.  But you could have a heavily moderated discussion with BW on the topic and where to go from here-with BW wanting to know what reasonably could be done to "fix" this.  That is one of the main questions that a Customer Service rep will ask a disgruntled customer-how can I make it right?  I don't see any of this as happening, but the very last thing they should do is to police this site with a heavy hand and never open up a discussion with fans.

So much win here. Devs like Gaider, especially someone like him who is a writer should know stuff like this. That there is a message, that there is a point that you can find amid all the hate & vitriol..

Ignoring it & running away from it doesn't solve anything. It is a form of escapism that will work for a short while .....

But so is the rest of the internet. 4chan, reddit, so on and so forth. Are those shining beacons of optimism and constructive thinkg?

No.

Or what about Blizzard's forums?

Painfully juvenille. No thinking at ALL. "Yes-man or shut up" mentality.
