Devs don't deserve to be insulted because the game they made didn't turn out the way you wanted it to but Moater Boats crappy behavior and his overall self centered, narrow minded, wannabe badass attitude makes him open season.  He is deliberatly toxic because he enjoys it.  He is scum

They don't deserve to be insulted, but they are open to criticism. Like Dr Extrem said, it is partially the PR team's fault too.

I can understand why he feels that way - but there IS a reason for that. There are always people who will not like something,we are all different. But when "noise to data" ratio is growing and environment becomes more toxic - it means more and more people don't like what is being developed.
And while BSN clearly is not the only place for Bioware fans - it is one of those places.
As for crowds at conventions - this is not even funny. People stopping appearing at those will mean that Bioware died. First signs that it does something wrong are internet background noise and sales.
And while ME3 sales where really really good, i'd like to see if it sold like DA:O - kept selling long after release, or like DA2 - sold a ton of preorders and then fell sharply down. I think it is the later.
