That's because of micro-transactions.

And to sell online pass.

@legion999 True, there were some negative threads back then, but nowhere near the amount of hate and negativity that gets thrown around these days.

I know. Have you ever read some of the peoples comments here and suddenly get a heavy feeling in your chest? Negativity in this degree isn't good for someones health, period.

And over video games, of all things.

Quit trying to justify the inexcusable crappy behavior of the bsn.  Devs are human beings and don't deserve to be insulted and threatened.

I agree, you shouldn't insult other devs of the company because of a few select people's lies. Insulting the whole company will never get you anywhere because a lot of the BioWare staff are still really good and honest people.

I know Jade, and I obviously wasn't talking about them. Because as much as I don't like ME3, the modellers, sounds designers, animators did a good job. And if you look around, nobody's blaming them.

I'm only questioning those few people's actions, as you mentioned.

Now you're a complete hypocrite.

Not only insulting people but you were derailing the thread too. If you had of just ignored it it wouldn't have blown up like that, also, the lack of ability to even trim the quote pyramid shows a heat of the moment rant/post on your part.

You are just as bad as the "haters" David Gaider spoke about. Think about that.

And yet I have not been forced to pay.  btw, how is paying for something that is random wrong?  The rarity of the good weapons and characters means it wouldn't work as a pay to win system.

I think hes saying that if they did not have the micro transaction system in place your looking at 10 bucks a pop for those expansions. They didnt give those free out of the kindness of their heart, they make more money with MT, look at Team Fortress 2.

Yes, but too often people just generalize and say "BioWare did this, BioWare did that."

People really need to stop that. Because it's only the 2% of BioWare doing wrong. And then the other part is not even BioWare, it's the parent company...

Now I know why ME2 had so many "daddy-issues".. Drew was trying to warn us.

I joined the community right from the beginning when they switched off from the old bioware site, the forums were (quite) clean and polite back then and after da1 we were all praising bioware for being really AWESOME.
Then came DA2 (And before it shipped a lot of us argued about the lack of steam support, then the game came out and I really think I should have left it at the shop). After it swtor (thank god I betatested It, I didn't waste money) And me3, I think that's their fault if we're toxic.

The best way to compare ME3's conundrum is to look at The Witcher 2. Both suffered similiar problems. Both had crappy endings & in both games fans were upset with it.
Bioware's solution :-
- No apology-Talk about artistic integrity  & ingenuity- A small expansion with some weird scenes & slide shows

CD Projekt Red's Solution:-
-Apology-12 new different endings, not just colors-Free DLC-DRM removal-Free upgrade to version 2.0 with tutorial
& people don't understand why Bioware devs get so much hate for ME3.

Bottom line. RPGs like ME3 are more than just mere games. They are games you invest your time into. They become part of your life after some time. Just look at the amount of fan art, fan fiction, fan videos we have on ME. All players will end up highly associating themselves with characters like Shepard. With his/her squadmates. With other characters in the ME Universe.

& after all that immersion and investment and all you get it different shades of ending or in the case of EC, different shades with different voices that still include major plot holes like Starbrat, players end up disappointed, betrayed.

& so the hate ...

I honestly think all this could be fixed if Bioware :-

-Issues a formal apology
-Gives us an option to win the conventional way
-Allowed players to actually save Thane
-Give us an option to give the finger to Starbrat & win, not lose
-Show us the blue babies / home on Rannoch /

The majority would be very contented with that

Which is the point of micro-transactions. It's a buisness model, nothing's wrong with it but it's not good either.
Snake summed it up better than me. Call him on your codex.

To a couple of members not involved in the huge clusterfudge of a quote pyramid, all that nostalgic talk is making me miss the old BSN. I kinda miss all the stuff that used to be here like gmagnum and that Gambit guy's drunken threads. :(

As far as I'm concerned. This is the only way he can be talking about the ME forums. He never visits here and only works on the DA3 forums (IIRC). So I don't know what's going on over there to make him feel this way, but yes I tend to agree with him to some extent. However, it did sound like towards the end of the blog that he just likes to receive positive feedback as opposed to negative. Sometimes it's hard for writers to acknowledge the difference between honest critism and negative feedback. They share that same passion for their work as we do for embracing their work.

That said, how the hell did ME3 happen? lol

Great points and yes, it is very important to keep things related to content and not to personality or threats of violence or ill intent.  I don't wish any of them harm at all and I never did, but I absolutely hate that they cast us all in that light.  Blogging about the BSN in such a negative light, saying it's toxic and all, makes us seem like a bunch of well, haters.  And I think that whole idea was always awful.  I don't hate people, I dislike a game ending, in effect a product.  I don't like how they've handled this whole situation and the blog is a representation of that.  They are fighting a proxy war against their own fanbase.  Not a good business strategy.  Don't lump us all into some category and especially don't characterize us as creating a toxic environment if you won't even meet us half way or at all.  I know he didn't work on ME, but in blogging he's taking part of that on.

It's like the blog is meant for everyone to say, "oh poor Bioware, what nasty fans."  Ok, no.  That's ridiculous.  If we do things wrong, well ban us, but then also make sure you live by the rules you created on this site and mete out punishment equally.  I've had a lot of people call me nasty names and have never seen them deal with that, but I've then seen others banned for far less egregious things.

Again, I've modded dev sites and other fan sites and this is a ridiculous way to handle things.  Someone gets out of hand, deal with it, handle the problem, don't go and complain about it to other people.  Or, if you see that something is "toxic" then get involved and try to make it better, don't blog about it-that only can make it worse.  In short the fastest way to get someone to comment negatively about you is to comment negatively about them.  How does that clean up any toxicity on this site?

Stop using twitter and blogs to discuss fans as if they don't exist.  Stop using intermediaries to fight your battle and stop making it a battle in the first place. Something's a mess?  Clean it up.  Be a positive force for change and don't foment an argument.

Is there negativity here?  Sure there is.  BW has yet to admit they made an error and has as yet done nothing to attempt to build bridges with fans.  They could have begun to do that with the EC, but they didn't use that to have an open discussion either.  They went back on twitter and then again began to characterize this situation as a fan problem.  Not helping.

What happens is that these are real people saying not so kind things about all of us, so it becomes very difficult to not attack the person that is attacking you.  I can't help but feel that every person working at BW needs lessons in Customer Service and the art of not saying everything that comes into your head.

It's not a fun job, but someone has to do it.  If no one polices our civilization's grammar, the Oxford Dictionary is just going to keep on adding BS words that have no right to exist like irregardless and flammable.  Ever since the day I learned that irregardless is now considered to be a real word, I have been devoted to the cause.

It's a new year...we lived past the Mayan apocalypse...come on we can be nice for a change...or if not that then at least the first month.

One month? anyone?

I'm going to do it, I'll try my hardest to not post anything negative for a month. Anything that people feel needed to be said to Bioware has been said already and I'm sure they are aware by now.

Unless on the rare chance that a Mod or Dev comes in asking questions * crosses finger*

edit: um to answer their questions truthfuly..not sling insults their way that is
