The "old favorite" based on the campaign. For example, if your character was to travel with Leliana at the end of the main game, she should be the companion.
YES

Sandal should return as a companion.
What? They said "an old favourite" would return!

The more I think about it, the old character would have to be someone you chose based on your own decisions....
What if you killed Shale at the Anvil?
What if you never recruited Dog?
What if Leliana never joined you/ you killed her at the Urn?
What if you killed Wynne at the tower?
What if you killed Zevran when he attacked you?
What if you executed Alistair/Loghain?
What if you never got Sten or killed him in Haven?
That leaves Oghren and Morrigan, and I'm unaware of any way that Oghren dies in your presence, and if you dismiss him he still invites you for a drink after it's all over so you still may be on good enough terms for the expansion. Morrigan may come back when she leaves you, but you either parted on poor terms or she's pregnant so her motivations to fight beside you seem poor but she could likely appear as an NPC. Sorry bout the length of this rant lol.

If you haven't finished DA yet, why do you care about an expansion thats set after DA?

Excellent question I was wondering why he is in here as well. Especially since the trailer for the expansion has MASSIVE end game spoilers.
