Hi,

I am buying the Mass Effect trilogy,
and I want advices on the DLC I should get for the three games.

I really want the DLC that add new characters.
However I HATE dlc that adds too powerfull weapons or armor, or gear, especially if you can get them early in the game.

I hated Dragon Age's DLC for that, because the gear was too powerfull and got rid of the whole challenge.
I
know I'am not forced to use them, but I don't like to ahve to choose
not to equip them, the game should not give you unbalanced gear.

NO SPOILERS PLEASE

Thx

Bring Down the Sky was my favorite, doesn't add a character but it was one of only two released for the original game.

If its characters your after then you'll probably be seeing allot of ME2. Stolen Memory was my favorite out of the second games add-ons. That one brings Kasumi onto your team for the rest of the game. Also liked Overlord & Lair of the Shadow Broker. They don't give you a permanent team addition, but Shadow Broker will briefly put one of the first game's squadmates back on your team for that story. Also, I think most people regard Shadow Broker as the series best add-on. Overlord has a vehicle mechanic, similar to the first game.

Haven't touched the third game's dlc, Ashes gets you Javik. Not sure if the others have new characters. And there is atleast one more still on the way.

Overlord my personal favorite. I think I got pretty into it and shed a tear after my first playthrough.
The Kasumi & Zaeed DLCs are great and add really interesting characters into the game, and the Shadow Broker DLC is one of my favorites too.

ME1: Get Bring Down the Sky. Definitely worth it and has an effect on ME3 plus some minro dialogue in 2. Don't have Pinnacle Station so I can't say much about it other than the look of it didn't appeal to me.

Zaeed is a DLC squadmate and best of all he and his loyalty mission are free via the Cerberus Network, which itself is free with new copies of ME2 (inc the Trilogy as far as I know). Cerberus Network has some weapons and armour too, which I wouldn't say are overpowered. Opinions vary on the paid DLC weapon packs but I don't find them a big deal either. You might find some who'll say the Incisor sniper rifle or the Mattock assault rifle or the Geth plasma shotgun are a bit too good but personally I think some of the guns that are maybe a bit too good in the hands of a squadmate aren't too bad used by Shepard and vice versa. But this is really all a matter of taste so unless you can have a go with someone who's bought them maybe you should watch some gameplay on YouTube and see if you think certain weapons are killing enemies too fast for you.

Other paid ME2 DLC worth getting is Overlord and Lair of the Shadow Broker and Kasumi, the first two for the reasons already given and Kasumi for another squadmate. A slight issue for you is that Kasumi has two very strong powers, one a starting power (Shadow Strike) and one her bonus for loyalty (Flashbang Grendade), but you can nerf them easily enough just by not investing squadpoints in them. I find that Kasumi's AI seems to have a little less I and left to her own devices she can get herself temporarily killed a lot so even evolved they mat be less of a problem than they sound.

Last ME2 DLC is Arrival, which a lot of people say is important to get because it's the bridge to ME3. Well, yeah, it kind of is, but I find the story extremely daft in a couple of places and the mission itself very repetitive play wise as Shepard single handers almost the whole thing, and anyway ME3 makes allowances if you haven't played it so I wouldn't say it was essential. In fact I actually uninstalled it at one point but I found it created some problems with saved characters who'd been awarded the mission not loading until I reinstalled it. So I had to put it back but now I either rush through it skipping all dialogue or more often skip it completely.

Can't give you much detail about ME3 as I haven't bought or completed the game. I do know that as has already been said Javik is a permanent squadmate if you buy From Ashes and also that the new Omega DLC has a couple of temporary squadmates for Omega missions only.

You say you're getting the trilogy set? Then you're already got some of the DLC. For PC, you get Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station free. (If you didn't, I'd only consider Bring Down the Sky - Pinnacle Station is a bit repetitive and annoying, without a payoff in the later games.)

Mass Effect 2, well...I'd personally get Lair of the Shadow Broker (which is enjoyable to play, and offers some perks, but only later in the game), Kasumi, and Overlord. If you don't like powerful DLC equipment available early in the game, well, don't buy the equipment DLC. Easy fix. I wouldn't say that the Cerberus Network DLC really qualifies; the armors grant pretty meager bonuses, and compared to late-game customized N7 armor are actually a liability for anything but cosmetics. If you've bought a new copy you get that one anyway, so there's not much to be done about it. Personally, I like Zaeed, but wouldn't buy 1200 points just to get him.

If you've got a PS3 version, you get pretty much all the ME2 DLC that's really worth buying on disc already.

Haven't messed with ME3 DLC so far. I'd look at Omega, Leviathan and From Ashes, though.
