Official Response From EA About Patch and DLC

Wrong. EA published it. Transgaming only helped with development. EA is the place to go for support. And in fact, every support link for the Mac version links to EA's support site.

DA seems a good game, however, Mac people, DONT BUY IT, the game have a lot of problems and support is not existing, despite what they says. I havent be able to play at all since I bought it, asked for help but neither transgaming (after a first answer) neither EA are even trying to help.

On the other hand, I've had absolutely NO problems buying, downloading, installing, and playing the Digital Deluxe version so far, apart from the game freezing when changing to window mode. Make sure your system meets the requirements.

The only thing preventing that is if there weren't enough people buying the Mac version. If there's too few, they might not consider it worth the resources to keep updating it.

We all have heard those excuses, but the reality is that if EA sells a product for the Mac platform we should expect the same kind of support that PC users get. End of story.

If they have no intent on ever doing anything but dumping the original game on the market, I am sure they have worded everything so it is legal, but it is also a very crappy thing to do.
Regardless, I wish they would have an official Mac support page that said basic stuff like:
- Patch 1.02 Status - in progress
- Return to Ostagar - no date, but we plan on doing it
- Awakening expansion - ESRB caught us, we actually are planning to release it someday.
... or "you got the game, enjoy it, we will never release anything else for it on the Mac ... SUCKERS!"

It might also be that they want an easy excuse to reduce their Mac support overall, and use lackluster sales of DA:O to justify this. Anything to reduce costs. So, they toss out a half-baked Ciderized port, give no support, get lousy sale, and use it as an excuse.
Personally, if they were to announce post-purchase DLC availability tomorrow, 5 minutes later I'd buy the CE. Without it, I'm not purchasing it. It's one thing if a game does not rely much on DLCs, but in the current paradigm (where DLCs are essential), to lock down one version over another does not do it for me.

That makes no sense - they have already committed resources to the project, so anything short of actual support only hurts THEM. I mean, does the Mac audience really amount for more than 'rounding error' compared to PC & consoles? I doubt it ... so if they are making it I see no reason NOT to make it right.dualie11 wrote...
They'll never provide support unless the numbers are there to support it. So NOT buying a game because you don't like the level of support isn't helping anything.

I can assure you that Transgaming is working on a patch. I personally worked with one of their lead programmers on a sound issue and he resolved it. It will get fixed once through QA and the patch process. I can't share details do to propriety agreements, but Transgaming does care. Give them a chance.
Thanks for the update, albeit unofficial. Despite some opinions, I have been loving the Mac version of Dragon Age, but have been dismayed by the total silence of EA/Bioware/Transgaming when it comes to *only* Mac-related issues ... every other platform constantly gets news.

I appreciate your optimism and am glad that Transgaming does care<3. I am also confident we will see a MAC version of all the expansion (fingers crossed). I think I will begin to cry, truly, if they do not make expansions available on MAC. They just cannot deny us - it would be too cruel.

I'm a loyal Mac user and developer but I have to say that since Boot Camp came out, the Mac game porting industry has been dead in the water. The shocking lack of support for Mac NWN 2, compared to NWN 1, was pretty much the last nail in the coffin.
My best advice to Mac users who want to play AAA games is to bite the bullet and go with Boot Camp and Windows XP or 7. You will have much less pain and immediate access to DLC and patches.
Buying Windows is NOT an option. I'm not buying that just so I can play games. I'll buy a PS3 (not XBOX for me) if I have to. But it doesn't sound like they are supporting that very well either.

Personally I play plenty of Windows games, including DA:O ... but to me that (ditch Mac, buy Windows) isn't a legitimate answer. If we had no game and were complaining about lack of port, THEN I would accept it. But we *have* a game and are looking for reasonable level of platform support.

I am considering buying a PS3 if they do not release future Mac versions as well. Would never run via bootcamp, sacrilege.

Comparing the now known Activision Blizzard to the initial start up Blizzard Entertainment, one should first realize and remember the difference between support for MAC users and PC users. Blizzard has not always had an exceptional or even adequate support form for MAC users. It took them years of support time for MAC users in order to get it to the level it is currently at. And that includes merging with Activision. Stop being nostalgic.

I believe that this thread was started because of Bioware's lack of communication with the Mac community, not to start another senseless debate about what operating system is better. Please refrain from making non constructive posts if you don't have anything good to say to this community. Bioware released a title for this particular computer platform, and their lack of information or support for the Mac users is rather unprofessional and will only make future costumers weary of their business practices.
