I'm thinking it is a Vanguard.
Because it seems perfect for a protagonist - a soldier with special powers.
What do you think is the canon class for Shepard?

Soldier. It's the default class. Plus, it never made sense to me that the Alliance's number one Spec Ops guy couldn't use an assault rifle, special powers or not.

There's a default class, not a canon class. That's sort of why they didn't show Shepard in any of the books.

I like to think Vanguard, in a age of space magic and super built in tech, i find it hard to believe the Alliance top soldier is a regular grunt that just shoots stuff.

That there is no canon class is in and of itself an opinion. My original very first playthrough Shep, was an engineer. That was about a 360 and 2 pc's ago though.

That there is no canon class can be an opinion. I've chopped and changed and experiented with different bonuses and even changed everything mid game with the editor too often to think of Shepard as being any particular class.animedreamer wrote...

Another reason is the fact that Shepard can be male and female, and you can choose what he/she looks like.

I have to agree. I always figured Shepard to e a soldier be considering in ME1 the quick start character is a soldier.

Most classes don't need no stinkin' assault rifle, they have master marksman pistol.
