I haven't lost interest. As long as they make a good game, I'll be interested.

Tell me. If that was the case, why don't the games with the biggest 'fanbases' get the highest scores and most awards? Why didn't Black Ops 2 and Halo 4 sweep the floor, get 10 out of 10s, and win best game of the year? Surely the big publishers would want to push the biggest games to get the most money?

Games with the biggest fanbases DO get the biggest scores......look at all the cloned shooters Halo, Gears of War and and Call of Duty and so on selling tens of millions of copies. Also once really established they can lean back and critics will go looking for them for exclussives and favor trading and such and thhey don't need as much of a push anymore since the game is already hitting big with the established fanbase.....then crappy games get a lot of hype if they have a big name publisher trying to shove them in the highlight and hope to mae them hits.

And Halo 4 pretty much did sweep the floor.....I remember looking at an award list evenly split between three or four games including Halo 4....it's got a Metacritic of 87....it just doesn't need as bit big of a push as a game that isn't already established. The hype machine did the job with the first 3 halo games so now it can lay off a bit and it'll still sell big.

Are you kidding me? No, Halo, Gears of War, and Call of Duty do not get the biggest scores. They get good scores, but they definitely do not get the highest. There are many, many independent and smaller games that got higher scores across the board from nearly all publications than those three.

"Big games" always get higher scores because people are normally scared to say what they really mean.

I guess I'm the weird minority. I am more interested in the ME universe after the EC and Leviathan. I'm pretty content with the story and universe.

I come here to discuss various topics but I'm growing frustrated with this community because it feels impossible to just have a discussion without it degenerating into an argument about how BW screwed something up.

Oh my God this....this!

Very first page of Metacritic, which aggregates reviews from various publications.

The Walking Dead - 95
Dishonored - 91
Borderlands 2 - 91
Far Cry 3 - 90

Halo 4 - 87
Black Ops 2 - 83

You're seriously telling me that the biggest games always get the highest scores?

I am very interested to find out about this last DLC. The fact that actors like Seth Green are returning, the entire writing staff is involved, and Sam Hulick is composing more music with "potential for tears" is more than a little intruiging.

If however, it is another ancillary side mission with no great impact on the main story (particularly a certain part of that story - you know the part I mean), then that will indeed conclude my interest in the Mass Effect franchise. And given my disappointment with Dragon Age 2, quite possibly Bioware's entire oeuvre.

It will be a sad day for me, as I have been a Bioware fan since Baldur's Gate 2, but there we are.

Read the edits. And no not really on the independent games....games like Journey are platform exclussive(PS3) so Sony had an interest in pushing it to sell consoles and the awarders get to fool you exactly as they led you by the nose in the legitimacy crap by pointing at the underdog winning and saying "See....we're totally legit"

That was kind of what I meant, I just didn't ask it very well.

If you are still interested in characters, or discussing past glories, or future DLC ideas, or similar, you have not "completely lost interest" in the game. People who hang around because they have friends here (great!) or enjoyed what happened in the past or whatever I totally understand. As pointed out, that is a key part of a "social" site.

I do not understand why people who say they have no interest in a subject feel the need to say that they no longer have an interest in the subject. Are you looking for stimulation as to why you should stay? (like from fellow posters or developers to convince you to stay) Are you looking for validation as to why you should go?

As I said, I don't mean this in a snarky way. I am curious as to why people (not just this OP) say these things so that wer can make things better here to prevent people from posting like this (becoming disenchanted) in the future.

Well, let me put it this way Chris.

When ME3 originally came out with the endings that were in place, I also said that "I am done with mass effect." But really, that was kind of a hyperbole on my part. I'm a mass effect fan at heart, but I believed that the way ME3 ended completely destroyed the in game universe and all the characters that I loved.

So I lingered around here to complain (and still do, sort of). The EC fixed some things for me, but there were some very minor things that were left out in the EC that would have made a really big difference in my opinion. From what I've seen, a large number of people here are really irritated about Shepard's fate. Even if the trilogy is the end of his story, I believe that a lot of us wanted to have more control on whether he legitmately lived or died. And the current endings don't provide that as of now. Shepard for a lot of us is pretty much the icon of not only the Mass Effect trilogy, but the entire franchise itself. Shepard is to mass effect like Master Cheif is to Halo is what I'm getting at. So that's one of the major complaints that have made a few people raise their arms in the air and say "I've lost interest."

Though also, the lack of Harbringer and the handling of the ME2 characters are making people upset too. They've been repeating this complaint since the beginning, and now some of them are starting to lose interest. Not because they hate the franchise, but because they believe nothing will be done in order to fix these issues.

Does that clear things up?

Could not have said it better myself!

Look at Halo 1-3....the  first of which sold over 10 million copies. At this point just mentioning the name sends the shooter fans in a frenzy.

And look at your high scores.....all have big name publishers shoving them hard just as Halo and other CoD games had before.

I've lost interest in the sense that there's really no way that the divergent possibilities can possibly be pulled together in a way that could make anything resembling sense for a future game. Any sequel would have to either completely retcon the ending decision (which would ****** people off more than they already are), or choose one as canon (and probably set these entire forums ablaze).

You are arguing that big games get higher scores. Do you grasp that? You are arguing that bigger games get higher scores. Obviously publishers are going to advertise games they expect to sell more. That's their right. You are arguing that bigger games get higher scores. Not that publishers 'mention' bigger games, as they're perfectly entitled to do. Not they they advertise.

Journey is not a console seller (even though it should be).

It wins awards, it gets attention and people want it bbut then they find out they need a PS3. Really simple concept....it does not have to be a Sony developed/published game to have the desired effect.

This is just stupid. Your logic boils down to "Everything reviewers do is to sell stuff and screw over consumers, no matter what the numbers and basic reasoning say."

I agree with the Aria part. Since when does Aria care what Shepard do? I find myself playing renegade on purpose just to see Aria strangle Oleg. I would like to save the civilans, but doing that makes Aria become OOC and I'm stuck shooting Oleg in the face. But as for the EC just delete the download that's the only thing I can suggest.

Actually not the way you think. For established titles like Halo and COD they need more TV adds and good scores.....the scores have to be ok so as not to drive people away and the tv adds to remind the buyers of the previous ones that OMG the next one's coming and that's it.

No game had a bigger hype machine than the original Halo the pre release E3 was one of the most insanly overcrowded and overblown E3 shows made.

Now new games or franchises that they feel they can make into hits they'll go for pure scores and awards to create the illustrious image that OMG you have to try this.....very different from a game that masses bought into and will jump on.

When people hear Halo they remember the first 3 and they remmber the flawless scores and when they see the game is the same mostly but looks better they immediately think 10/10 without checking because it's something they know and are familiar with.

As I said, the publishers have every right to advertise their product. That has nothing to do with the reviewers being corrupt.

I know this may sound a little snarky, but I really don't mean it to. I mean this as an actual legitimate question:

Then why are you here?

"I don't like ME anymore" (for whatever reason. Didn't like the ending, didn't like the DLC, didn't like ME3 core game, MP, etc). Why are you still here?

I have, over the course of a long life, fallen in and out of love with games, authors, films, etc. When I am done with them, I am done with them. I don't linger, hang around, etc and tell people about how I am "done" with whatever it is. Sure, maybe later on, I come back to it and reread/replay/rewatch, etc and maybe get involved again, but if I am done with something, I leave it.

So if you have "lost interest" (or similar) why are you still here?

My best guess would be depression...
The only good reason to stick around if you lost interest is something would be if you were traumatized by it and needed some place to talk about it...

Like a support group...
Don't underestimate the power of interactive media on the human psyche...

No....everythhing they do is to get exclussive and draw crowds to their sites and get leverage with publishers for more exclussives because they have the craptons of viewers and to make money of the companies advertising on their sites. EVERY major game critic and award show with massive audiences does this.....all the time.
