If you decide to play as a new warden, how will they determine what took place in DA1?  Canonized?  A questionairre a la KOTOR 2?

Probably just transfer over the dead warden's decisions.

What if they start a new game without importing any saves?

If you can do that they might have a canned plot, perhaps similar to the trailer?

Just like playing a different Origin i would imagine.. Dalish elf for example, allows extra racial dialogues at some points.

Talking about past experiences to an npc, would no doubt bring up some of your Origin choices.
"I was at Ostagar" etc or Cause hostilities with some.

It's an expansion, I doubt you'll be able to play it without selecting a character. It's not meant to be standalone?

If you roll up a new Orleasian, that would be because the former Warden is dead, so that will probably be the "cannon" for a new Warden - otherwise the old Warden would be the commander not some newbie from Orlais.

I'm actually curious about how they're going to treat new character builds. Are you going to end up with a character with the same class/stats as your deceased Warden, or be allowed to change classes, etc.?

I assume you'd be able to pick whatever you want, since they will be providing a magic book that would let you totally re-spec your existing character if you wanted to.

I was wondering this also... how are your old companions and equipment going to factor into this? Are you going to be able to keep equipment equipped on other characters? Are old companions that your warden went off with still going to be with the warden? They say that there are 5 new companions and an "old favorite" from DA:O (which probably means Morrigan) but what if my warden romanced Leliana Alistair or Zevran?
