Hi guys, this is my first time playing and I've been looking around in different forums about rogue build

From what I've read it seems like a dagger/dagger CUN rogue is one of the most powerful DPS, so I decided I wanted to try that. I choose the city elf because apparently it has a very powerful dagger to DPS (fang).

I'm still unsure about going assassin/barb or assassin duel. I heard the former has good synergy since barb is also base on CUN, dmg on CUN. If instead I go assasin/duel then I should max DEX rather than of CUN right? (I heard something like 40 CUN is enough and put the rest in dex.

Can you guys enlightment me on the difference of assassin/barb and assasin/duel?

If i understand right, the first one will bring highest DPS (downside 20% chance of missing attack) and good support with the songs for the party. The second will be about dashing out hits with high DPS while being able to tank (high def from DEX).

Hoping to get feedback from the community so I know what route I should go, wouldn't want to play hours and hours then later find that I should restart from scratch.

Bards and Duelists have different skills. Bard gives you a pretty boss sustained buff (songs). Personally, I threw caution to the wind and went Bard/Duelist.

If you want a sheer dps rogue, you should  definitely go Assassin/Duellist ...

Just remember to be able to fully utilize the damage potential you will need to build up your tank to be able to sustain and take aggro as well, because if you end up tanking the mobs, you will do far less damage ...

Both of them sounds fun.

With Assassin/Barb I'll move around, buff my party and pick my attacks to dish out high damage to the most dangerous ennemy, therefore I'll need tankers to take hits while I move, the barb buff should help tankers' survivability.

Assassin/duelist, pretty good DPS while being able to be a semi-tank, So my support could be mage with powerful AOE to help me in fights vs many ennemies.

mmmm I guess i'll keep checking out what others have to say but I think I'm tilting on assassin/duel. However, it seems like assassin/barb will be harder and take more time to kill ennemies but that means more fun to me finishing off right?

I've just started a run as a City Elf Rogue. Haven't decided which route I'll take, but I've done an Assassin before. I may go Duelist/Assassin though.

In one of my play throughs I had myself as an Assassin/Duellist, while I spec'ed Leliana as a Bard/Ranger, had Alistair Tank and Morrigan as mage (spec'ed with some healing spells), - by far one of the games where I seemed to have the most dps compared to other setups I've tried so far ...

Bah! Scratch that. I'm going archery. I'll have to see what fits with that.

So as an assassin/duelist you didn't need CUN and upgraded DEX while Leliana went high CUN for barb song buff and lockpicking right?

Blah if you want a real challenge go Shapeshift/bloodmage solo on nightmare, as far so rogue builds go dwarf or noble is the way to go with dex only to 30 and the rest in cun with assaisn/bard my rogue does on avg 120 dps with crits around 200.

The Main thing to remember, as others have stated, is that you need to watch your damage output. If you out DPS the tank you have assigned, you will pull agro, and chances are you'll die. A dead Rogue does 0 DPS xD

So try to expand not only on attack buffs and maintainables, but also on abilites like Disengage, and get gear to reduce hostility.

Edit: Forgot to put my choices in. Duelist/Bard is the way I went. :)

No one mentioned the Assasin abilities rely off CUN as well then?

Assassin/Bard is probably the best setup, max all the Sin abilities but you only actualy need the first song the bard gets. The others are just flluff. Mid and later game stamaina/mana regen is more important. Also so you know if you get 80 cunning you dont need any skill in lockpick or coercion so that frees up choices.

If you wanna try something different though my first Warden was Duelist/Ranger with dex 36 and everything else in str. Must say very unique setup and fun. Of course I couldnt lockpick well at all haha.

Personally I'm going for an Assassin/Ranger dual-dagger cunning build.

I recommend Duelist & Bard. Bard for stamina regen & Duelist for attack & defense rating.

I think the best way to build a character is just to do it. Mind you, I'm on character 12 and the best class is the rogue. But, you can be a do-everything rogue. If you plan to be a melee damager, you should be a duelist or an assassin. Three of the four assassin abilities are passive so it's an easy class to manage. If you plan to be a ranged damager, Ranger and Bard are the best. I've found that I have the most fun not mixing the two. A fully developed archer can really bring the rain. Combine that with a great bear of giant spider to distract large bosses, you can be pretty potent. IMO, the "Heavy Hitter" achievement is easiest with an archer.

This is where Feign Death comes in handy, I think. xP

Arrow of Slaying will get you that achievment.
lol

Personaly I find Bard/Ranger for a Archer to not synergise at all since your pumping Dex not cunning and all the Bard abilities go off cunning. Its kinda limiting what your options are for a Archer due to a shift in needed stats.

I'm rolling a rogue as well, I've done it in the past, but it's been a while, and never on hard. Dagger/dagger/cun/Assassin = quick death for me, not sure what cunning is supposed to do anyway outside of lock picking and persuasion. I'm switching to a dex, strength, dw build. I'm still dying, but a little less slowly. Hopefully when I can start adding the dualist into the equation things will get better, if not, I'll roll a mage or something.

I liked sword+Dagger rogue since you can equip marics sword reguardless of str.
Duel wield warrior has the same problems with dying ive seen. Plus a duel wield warrior isnt as skill itensive as a rogue. You only need Duel Strikeing+Momentum and get the top tree in DW maxed out for duel mainhand weapons.
Just auto attack, if you have Morrigan and Wynn in your Party you can teach both haste and attack at ludacris speed. (Dont use Momentum with Haste, they dont work in such a way that you attack sloer with them both on, but two hastes will stack)

Duel Wield Warrior get some good benefits from Berserker/Reaver spec setup but you may wanna pick Templar/Reaver or Berserker to get acccess to the 40% spell resistance armor. You can easily build a spell immune templar due to that armor.

Yeah I have no problem with DW warrior, in fact I can breese through hard at will it seems, rogue is a horse of a different color though.  I think I will go get Wynne, been avoiding the fade like the plague so far.

Cunning Rogues get big damage bonuses from Tainted Blade and Exploit Weakness  (and to a lesser extent Armor Pen) at the expense of horrible attack and defense ratings. To overcome that, the Bard spec is pretty much required, as is a Champion Tank running Rally and the conceptually flawed Taunt. A Mage spamming healing and Heroic spells helps as well.

OTOH, a DEX Rogue can solo nightmare with ease...
