I think the final "farewells" are some of the most powerful moments in the trilogy

I think we were supposed to imagine the old crew fighting.

All I can see is Jacob taking hits and going down and being as entirely useless as he was in ME2.

He'll forget his biotic barrier all over again.  Oops.

True, shame that everything after that went downhill, i mean it feeled so blank and plain, nothing special like Ilos or SM

I liked the dialogue, disliked the kind of impersonal way it was all handled.  Phone calls.  Like, hey we're a bit busy, you know?  And then what comes after that is pretty badly handled.  In fact, the inclusion of teammates at the FOB creates problems that relate to the Normandy evac scene-as well as it begs the question, how did the crew of the Normandy get to the FOB?

Yes I agree, one of the genuinely well-crafted moment of the trilogy, definitely. But, I must say, that a few of them could have had a better final speech. It was awesome, overall though.

It reminded me a bit back in ME2's suicide mission when at one point the camera is zoomed out enough and is positioned well enough so that you can see the entire team standing together (physically all there). At the time when ME3 had yet to be released that scene felt like a "final stand". Not a final "farewell" though, but more like "ok guys, we're here together for this one mission, but we may not come back from it alive, you know what is at stake, so focus", it was intense and it gave me goosebumps.

lol I will actually be at this very moment in the trilogy, in just a few hours. I just have to do Tali's Loyalty mission, LotSB, pick up Legion and the Reaper IFF and I'll be headed through the Omega 4 relay. Truly epic

Though, I'm glad that the tone is different than that of ME3's. In ME3, its like desperation mode. Everything has led to this. Our final stand. It's the Super Bowl, the final exam, the finals. A true "we can do this!" moment. Whereas in ME2 its like: we know what we came to do. Now let's layeth the smackdown on their candy ass'. Both stand on their own and are appropriate for their settings.

The only thing I can say I actively dislike about it is the completely pointless turret scene, especially coming after Garrus (and romanced Ashley for my male Shepard) goodbyes and right before Liara/Javik (mostly if you convince him to keep living)/Wrex/Tali.

It's so remarkably out of place and adds nothing to the overall scene.

I do really enjoy the goodbyes though.

Same. Couldn't let the COD crowd get bored, though.

that is a very fitting way to describe it.

I like it....it gets me emotionally every time...I just wish I wasn't made to feel so rotten when Shep turns Liara's gift down...:(...otherwise I am touched all the way.

I think if people could accept that she's always "loved" Shepard (regardless if you ever romanced her) instead of thinking of her as a stalker/creeper, then the "gift" would be easier to accept for those that didn't romance her.

It happens in real life all the time. I'm sure many here can think of someone (in the back of their minds) who they've loved, and still have some love for, even though they could never be together.

She loves Shep.....but will always be his/her friend even if she could never have him/her

It does depend a great deal on RP also....my favorite Shep....Canon....never did get the 'obsession' vibe off Liara...he didn't pick her up until after Virmire and didn't help her become the Shadow Broker.....that was news to him (I don't have LotSB on my ME PC version).....so he never really got to know her that well....He tried the 'mind meld' in ME1 with Shaira out of curiousity and didn't like it....too intrusive....had to grin and bear it with Shiala and Liara and won't volunteer for thee experience again....he simply doesn't like it...I would liked him to have been a bit kinder in his rejection of Liara's gift in his farwells though.

That is a very good and apt description.

The good byes were awesome across the board. They weren't depressing, they weren't overly happy, but a nice mix of optimism and realism. Awesome.

However, the actual "final" farewells during the Evac scene are... well not all of them are good. At all. EDI, I'm looking at yours. Javik is close behind. Tali's though hit me right in the feels.

To be fair, EDI's platform is expendable and I wouldn't in a thousand years believe Javik would let himself be dragged away from a battlefield.

That last one, though... :crying:

Javik's Beam run conversation is my favorite. Using the renegade dialogue at least makes him leaving plausible.  But lets be honest, he'd crawl to the beam if he had to.

I haven't seen EDI's. Haven't seen Tali's either, but I've heard it's pretty good. I actually like Javik's but I do feel he couldve said something a little more epic, such as: "Do what must be done, Commanda"

Ofcourse I love Liara's: "I'm yours." (Pretty deep, considering she's gonna live for 900 more years)

Oh, I thought it was off-topic, but...

Run to the beam goodbyes >> FOB goodbyes to ME2 characters.

Ash gives me a :'(, and her's isn't the best written one...

Is there a goodbye scene with Mordin if you saved him?

Well trying to evacuate EDI on it's own is kind've stupid since she is in the ship, not the body. The body is highly expendable. Then Shepard argues with her about protecting the Normandy, finally giving her a "moral order" to evacuate. What the heck is a "moral order"?

Tali's "I already have a home." Oh... that was good.

Honestly, "there's no Shepard without Vakarian" may be my single favorite moment in the series. Right in the feels, that one. Tali's at the fire base and again at the beam are close behind.

Frankly, neither of those two even has to be romanced for them to be powerful. Even just as friends, they manage to convey how much hell they've been through with Shepard and how they've stood by him until the end.

The final goodbyes were a large part of why the ending hurt so much, for me. They're amazingly well done, and ultimately betrayed by the ending.

Indeed. Every playthrough I'm like "oh man, not this again : <". Final goodbyes are never much fun.

Most of the squadmates got out alive and most of the endings have Shepard dead which validates the need for said goodbyes.

So I don't really see how those scenes are betrayed by the endings.

I hated the final goodbyes. Let's just get this over with. I'm getting ready to fire up for a play from the beginning on the PC with tex mods. Yay! This should be fun because I can max out the graphics.

too bad that the holo-vids goobies are awful. bw, was too hard for them to be in the fob?

I know some writers are incompetent, but bw screwed the ME2 characters.

They aren't goodbyes for me. They're see you when this is done.

That said, some of them are too short and nothing meaningful happens.

Miranda has the best one of course, looking over the context of Shepard and Miranda's relationship.

M: I wish I was there... With you.

S: Me too.

M:... I don't know what to say.

S: Please don't say goodbye.

M: Then finish this Shepard. And find me.

S: I will. I promise.

They are, but it's also completely contrived, just as is what follows it.
