I think the final "farewells" are some of the most powerful moments in the trilogy

What were your favorite farewells?

I thought Liara and Garrus had the most emotional goodbyes, though I quite liked Javik's as well. I had the version where he intends to take his own life where his squadmates are buried.

omg...so much Awesome in Javik's farewell. Both of them. (paragon and renegade) "Thanks, for letting the voice of the Last Prothean be heard". (Or whatever he says lol.)

I actually like Joker's good bye on the Normandy, that pause as Shepard looks down for a moment before returning the salute speaks volumes IMO.

Loved 'em. Javik, Garrus and romanced Ashley/Kaidan being the most powerful for me. The last lap of the Normandy was great aswell.

I love how there's no music during that scene.....just silence and the sound of battle

I would personally have moved that scene to just before leading the Fleet to Earth (for me it breaks the narrative flow where it is; and yeah, that turret scene was ill-conceived). That said, it was a bunch of really great moments, with Garrus and Joker being my favorites.

"You'll never be alone."
"Never..."

Personally, I thought it was one of the worst parts.

The final goodbyes were a large part of why the ending hurt so much, for me. They're amazingly well done, and ultimately betrayed by the ending.

Most of the squadmates got out alive and most of the endings have Shepard dead which validates the need for said goodbyes.

So I don't really see how those scenes are betrayed by the endings.

Ok, I think you must know why people feel that they are.  The endings are not befitting such really good dialogue.  The endings are not befitting such truly well-crafted characters, either.

I feel the same thing about all of it.  I don't like the trivial way in which much of it was handled-the whole of Priority Earth outside of the dialogue for a lot of it, is just a botched up mess.  The crew at the FOB, along with Victus, makes no sense.  How did they get there?  Weren't the Krogan supposed to be helping protect Palaven?  Javik would crawl to the beam as someone said-even if he only could move one toe, he'd be trying to get there.  And the phone calls just seemed plopped right in there (though the dialogue was good).  The other goodbyes were good as well, but dialogue with EDI at the FOB-if you helped her and Joker have a relationship and if you helped her head toward autonomy, well the endings don't at all fit the great stuff she says.  She says she's alive because of Shepard.  Oh, but pick synthesis and what-she's really alive and wasn't before?

Great dialogue that is wasted in Priority Earth and that just gets smashed at the end.  All that stuff the phone a friends are doing is to actually try and win this thing.  Then the others at the FOB just sit back and drink coffee while Shepard and 2 teammates rush headlong into the open towards the beam.  Great.

read the OP please....we're leaving the ending out of the discussion

I thought EDI's dialogue was super lame (moral order?) but Tali's brought an instant lump to the good ol' throat.

TBH, if they were a bit more extended than they are, and Shepard's last speech was better, I would not care one diddly bit if Shepard was guaranteed to die at the end no matter what. He's said what needs to be said, there's been closure, it'd be a fitting end.

Course when they have Shepard live and nothing afterward....bit weird feeling.

And thank you for answering my question Zazzerka....appreciated....^_^

No problem. I'm uhh.. kinda an expert on this kind of thing. ;)

Except I could be wrong about the gift thing. I seriously thought there was a way to stop her even offering it.

I could try and get an answer for you....gotta admit, I have the perfect Shep/Liara history to try....:crying:.....I don't like him being a complete b*stard....but will see how I manage a run in which it's renegade all the way with Liara and complete ignorence to her and let you know what happens....that's if I can stomach seeing it all the way through though.

It'd be interesting to see. And I know what you mean, it'll be hard. :P
