I've actually heard that the rate of shiny encounter in the friend safari is much higher.
Not sure if its true but its what people have noticed.

OMG - I JUST BRED A SHINY RALTS!!!!! Sorry about the caps, but I am just SO happy - wish I'd taken a pic. After I bred some five IV raltses (and a six IV one) earlier, I decided to finally give the Masuda method a spin because I had a Japanese kirlia I got from someone a while ago. I literally cannot believe my luck - I think it only took 30-40 eggs!!!!!

Personally, I don't hunt for shinies. I feel like if you try super hard to get one, it defeats the point of them.

I'd rather randomly come across one just gaming naturally. Then again, that can lead to never running into one, as there are people who've played for ten+ years and never seen one.

I've run into a few, at least.

Because some of them look cool.

For example; I would never 'try' to get a Goldeen or Seaking shiny, they are too similar to the original colour, but I'd love to get the Charizard because black dragon!

Well, if anyone needs any regular five IV raltses, I kind of have a bunch now. They're all Timid with either Trace or Synchronize.
