I'd never call Tony an anti-hero. He nuts up and does the hero act gladly when it counts and doesnt come close to Han or Logan in that regard.

Only thing those three have in common is there ability to crack wise afaik.

I too never would call Logan or Garrus an anti hero personality wise. If you play renegade this is more appernt as Garus takes that tone when you kill Tail. He's likes to get things done but also tends to understand the good guy vibe verily well. He's more like Jason Borne or Han Solo in this regards. Han Solo goes through massive character development in to that good guy type of hero.

Logan is very much the anti-hero. He and Deadpool are THE Weapon X anti-heros out of that group.

Ok then I never though of him as an anti hero myself but I can see how he could be one.

You know I'm not sure...

I can't remember my feelings on him when I first played ME1 back in 2008, though I don't think he was my favorite squad member, Then again I got the companion medals for Tali and Garus in 2009 before me2 came out, my only companion medals. I was pretty impressionable back then though and I might have just picked up the trend in taking them both at the same time from online.

Anyway some change happened to me between then and mass effect 2, it could have been some of his Archangel hype rubbing off on me, but I certainly remember going "ah ha!" when they revealed who archangel was, I probably knew Garus was in the game, but I really was not big on finding out all the details online before ME3 came out.

Anyway the Answer is I probably came into the idea of him being a cool character from other people saying it, but not all trends are a bad thing. Some things are popular for a reason.

Baldur's Gate also has party members leaving if your reputation falls too low. I believe certain members(Jaheira and Keldorn come to mind) leave if certain set of circumstances is met, but it's been long time since I've played, so I can't claim for sure.

But they will leave if you're too much of an a-hole.

I remember Keldorn tried to kill Viconia after she's been with my party quite awhile (not his best idea^^).

But I think the difference is that BG2 had 16 potential companions (the EE even more), not to mention numerous NPC mods. You can kill or scare some NPCs away, and it doesn't really effect gameplay. Even your most evil/a-hole bhaalspawn always has enough potential companions. ME3 had 6 (7 with Javik) squadmates. I think it would have restricted roleplaying too much if characters like Liara or Kaidan would leave a renegade Shep for example.

Valygar is none to fond of Vicky as well :D Sucks to be a drow, I guess.

But you make a valid point. And it's not like just those two would leave.

The voice, the look, the skills, the respect, the humour.

Theres nothing not to like.

Yes the question is why isn't he more popular! :)

For me though the voice, his attitude, he has a charm about him, skills, he's my fav class, and really I just love how well his romace was handled in ME3 it was a 9.5/10 for me I really was only irked by the whole PG love scene I know he's not beautiful but some skin showing that would be apealing should've occured its him compared to that nameless turian nude model thats floating about. I do also find I love more Turian VAs in the game and I find a few of the Quarians cool on voice and look alone. Like for instance a few other Turians I love the general from ME's bar who you help with the consort issues, the both turians on peak 15 Lok Qinn and the engeneer who talks to you about the happenings up there, and of course Gavon.

I loved him back in ME and while his falts did make me question him personally I'm glad he was an LI for 2. I just wish they would've had him try to kill you or something after you save Sidonis I honestly thought I was ruining our friend ship for a good chunk of the game and he'd try to murder me before he could even want to patch things up.

Yess wish the loves scenes weren't so brief, compared to the humans LI's. In a way making it brief makes it more endearing because the scene focuses on their emotional intimacy. But still..was particularly irked by the scene in ME3 where the LI comes to Shep's cabin to comfort him/her. Garrus is just chillin by a table with a datapad whereas someone like Kaidan is still spooning you. Not fair lol. If Bioware wants to be..lazy about showing turian nudity, they still could've had cuddling without showing too much  -_-

I'm generally obsessed w/ all of the male Turians cause all of their VAs are always deep, a little raspy, and they've got that dual-pitch tone thing got going on. Makes them all sound very masculine and smooth, but not too beefy.

As for looks- I've tried to figure out what it is that makes soo many chicks in the fandom, including me, dig the male Turians so much. I feel like its cause their physique is comparable to people like, Olympic swimmers but exaggerated. They're all 6+ ft tall, super lithe, got long lean legs, their carapaces make them look like they've got really broad shoulders/chest, but then they taper down to tiny waists and angular hips. The shape of their mouths and the way their mandibles click is absurdly cute, too  ;)

They do rather look hypermasculinized.... But also rather alien. I'm not sure if they're that attractive conventionally, but... Ah. Hmm.

Hehe I think it's that exact combination that makes the attraction, at least for us ladies who see it. The fact that they are so alien and unconventional is what makes them more intriguing than a conventionally good looking human male coughkaiden, but at the same time they have attributes that are familiar enough and alluring in their own way.

I like the Turian voices. Primarch Victus's voice is probably the second best sounding Turian within the game. But in the end, I would still prefer manly and masculine Krogan voices! :)

For me I have to calibrate some stuff at work and every time I do I think of Garrus. Hell, I've even been interrupted while doing so and without thinking said, "can it wait for a bit?" without even thinking. About a minute later I was laughing pretty hard and a few coworkers looked at me as if I were crazy. So yeah he rubbed off, now every time I see Brandon Keener in something from a JC Penny holiday commercial to that Fed Ex ad I yell look its Garrus.

Garrus is popularity, to my mind, can be traced back to his story in ME1. Everything Bioware did with him after was a response to that initial response, and I will say that his roles in ME2 and ME3, are even way more awesome obviously. But back with ME1, he was this alien guy who came to you as this bureaucrat company man who admitted to not so secretly wanting to break the rules for a change. In this way, and the way Shep could encourage him further and further about this desire he had, the player got to make a connection with Garrus that felt really vital, and symbolic of their own Paragon or Renegade personas.

Garrus is all about "Breaking Bad". He's the Walter White, but one who didnt become an ego maniac murderer, and instead became Space Batman, and devoutly loyal to Shep, the player.

In relation to this, Garrus is probably the closest thing to a mentee for Shep (that is before James comes along asking for N7 advice) Garrus is obviously younger and less experienced than Shep, and the transition in his personality from ME1 to 2 shows a clear indication of Shep's influence. He not only comes back more mature, confident, and levelheaded, but he directly emulates Shep's example more than anyone else.

It's impressive how he basically becomes the kind of leader Shep is by leading his very own squad in Omega. And in contrast to his rash personality in ME1, he emulates Shep's code of conduct by emphasizing the prevention of civilian casualties/involvement. In this way Garrus shows a very strong and independent line of character development, while also expressing the kind of relationship and influence Shep has had on him. This strength of character and realness is surely part of what makes him resonate with players =]

I have no idea why Garrus is so popular. I don't really care one way or the other about him. I mean, if you need a sniper on your team then I suppose he's handy, but otherwise... meh. Ashley in ME1&3 and Thane in ME2 are just as good if not better.

It's Garrus. His deadpan/dry humour is why I love him. Him and ManShep are the epitome of "bros". If I could describe their relationship in with one gif, it would be this;

I think James is the ultimate bro in the MEU. He's the only person Shepard can work out with.

True. I knocked someone out (literally) over a game of Uno before. Me and the buddy laugh about that now.

Or I let take out that aggression on me a bit as a female he gave me a bloody nose. Wow James just wow that's just grand. If Garrus had seen that he would have killed the sucker. He's that protective of his girl friend lol.

Shep gets her own kind of revenge on James; she beats his pull-up record, and his Armax Arena highscore, and makes him lose the bet on the biotiball game.

Lol but I'm still wondering why they thought him beating on the female Shepard while in a rage a good idea?
