Maybe its because the characters and character development in ME1 werent as good as ME2, so from the first crop he was among the top 2 or so favourite (personally, I liked Wrex after ME1).

Tali got a lot more interesting in ME2, and then Mordin, Thane, Legion, and Jack are all awesome, especially when compared to Ashley/Kaiden. But by the time theyre introduced, a lot of people already liked Garrus.

As for the he never disagrees with you... I disliked that about him, gives him less personality.

Garrus in ME2 was not too interesting to me. There was a little too much dwelling on Sidonis, but in ME3 he is gold. It is like he grew up or woke up and took charge again.

@ StayFrosty05 Glad to hear that you liked Ash in ME3. Still haven't done a pt with her so it is nice to have something to look forward to.

He's the least difficult character to know and have around.
The most diffcult thing he got you into was saving him from those mercs... And that was your choice, he never asked for you to come.
His loyalty mission wasn't unreasonable or crazy.

Also the way he defers to Shepards authority makes him less likely to rub people the wrong way, he's loyal. That is probably part of Turian Hirarchy culture.
He's also a good guy and isn't a pirate or anything else that might cause people to, well those who has a problem with criminals don't have a problem with him. And he's tough and doesn't complain much. Some people hate characters who complain about everything.

There is very little that people can dislike about Garrus. I'm not sure if that would make him the mot loved or liked character but it gives him the least amount of people disliking him outright.

I also used Garrus as the commadner for the fire team on the collector base in ME2 because he had no issues with the other people of your crew. And he had past leadership experience, the reason he failed his own vigilante team wasn't his own fault so the Collectors were unlikely to be abel to use that same tactic against him and his team. Good Squad leader, experience and good training, respect of the others, no enemies or dislikes.

Basically he's loyal, useful, and has a great mix of serious and humorous scenes. Bioware basically found a great mix with Garrus. Characters that joke around to much and/or are too non nonchalant can easily get annoying. Characters that are always serious can come across as shallow. Mix the two and you get depth.

I never understood why he was so popular in ME1 but in ME2 I found him extremely likable and in ME3 I thought he was brilliant.

Garrus has a growing personality, the right mix of honorable and badass and is also Shepard's best Bro from the beginning until the end. Honestly, when I first played ME2 (completely unspoilered) I thought I'd have non of my ME1 squaddies again after Tali, Joker and TIM explained how busy they are. And then I saw Archangel taking off his helmet, one of the greatest moments in my Mass Effect experience so far.

Garrus is too... good, for me.

That's what I guess my issue is. He's too much of a righteous guy. He understands the darkness, but he doesn't embrace it. I have my Shepard do both.

He's good in ME1, but I wish I had the ability to corrupt him. ME2 is ok too, but ME3 he just becomes more of a caricature.

I much prefer Javik, though I'd never have Javik call me friend. It doesn't suit him. He's beyond that.

Because garrus is awesome. Basically he is the character that is made to love he is generally never a complete a** to Shepard (except when you do the are you sure you want to kill sidonis thing) he is also a fun character and in ME2 and ME3 has some of the best dialouge in the game. There are other things but basically bioware made him to be a favorite in ME2 and it is obvious they were trying to make him a fan favorite and it worked. Garrus is my favorite video game character of all time and that is saying something since I have been playing video games since I was 4 years old.

His sexy cricket voice, he can be awkward, and he kind of comes off like one of my best friend I have in real life.

Liara is too attached and that stupid breathy voice, Tali is adorable but she doesn't have the same type of interactions, but he was written that way and she's written as an un/lucky childhood best friend without even being the childhood part, Ashley acts like a b***h, and Kaidan is just there.

Garrus kind of comes off as the cool one to me in the end, though ME2 has a lot of characters I chose more: Miranda, Kasumi, Zaeed, Grunt, and Mordin.

Garrus was chosen a lot more in ME3 simply because BioWare got lazy and ran out of time in writing companions. Story reasons I guess, like the story reason for why Nyreen isn't a companion after Omega.

Because there is absolutely nothing to dislike. He has been there since day one, he's good with a sniper rifle, he respects your authoritae, and as a male LI doesn't get involved in the same level of bashing and polarization that the female LIs do amongst fans on the BSN. He also has a good deal of content both romanced and not, and some great lines. In other words, Garrus is a staple of Mass Effect, and if you don't like him, you're missing out on a lot of the game.

I don't really care about him or Liara.

I care more about Thane, Legion and Kasumi than Garrus, Tali or Liara.

- He follows his own beliefs, yet is respectful towards Shepard.
- He's the most humorous of the squaddies.
- He has useful abilities in combat.
- Dat voice.
- Dem mandibles.
He's badass but not cocky/showy about it (though I personally wouldn't mind him being cocky-showy with my FemShep IFYOUKNOWWHATI'MSAYIN').
- He's 100% loyal to Shepard, yet at the same time retains an identity beyond the Normandy. I never felt that Garrus only existed within the sphere of Shepard.
