Does Spirit resistance mitigate the damage of an exploding walking bomb for an ally?
In my case, Aveline with 95% spirit resistance is still taking large amounts of damage, getting knocked out almost each time, unless her health is near 100% at the time of explosion.

In theory, spirit resistance does reduce walking bomb friendly-fire damage.
However, due to the significant differences between walking bomb damage and your party's hp, even 5% of the damage leaking through is more than enough to kill party-members. e.g. 5% of ~8000 damage is 400 damage, and you'll need a considerable amount of constitution to tank that easily.
This means that no matter the amount of spirit resistance, you'll almost always hit the friendly-fire cap of 75%. So in a way, spirit resistance doesn't really do anything to mitigate damage (since you'll hit the cap regardless).
There are still ways around it -
- keeping her health above 75% should keep her alive
- abilities like barrier and stonewall (100% damage resistance) should prevent her from receiving any damage
- stacking on damage resistance equipment/abilities in general (in addition to spirit resistance) may reduce the friendly-fire damage to a manageable amount.
Alternatively, you could always unpatch the game. Pre-patch it was possible to become immune to various elements, which made walking-bomb melee builds a lot more viable.

Ah, I see. That makes sense.
I did notice her taking less damage on a few occasions. Now that I think about it, it was probably because her damage resistance was stacked high with immovable.
Thanks for the reply.
