But somebody needs to fill the "principal human male" Kaidan/Alistair/Carth role. Though I haven't seen a character fail this badly with fangirls since Anomen. I think Jack actually is stronger narratively, I just needed an excuse to take away her LI status.

I don't really see that role as necessary myself.

Especially when you fail at it as spectacularly as Jacob does.

Morinth, Jacob, and Thane.

Jacob cheats on Femsheps who romanced him and Femshep does nothing to retaliate? Bull@#$% Any reasonable Renegade Femshep would had his head on a pike for the other Femshep love interest.

Thane- Was killed in the most contrived way possible. The kicker... Shepard and her heavily armed squad does nothing to help once Kai Leng was knock on the ground for a few moments which was ample time for Thane to pull back to watch the Councilor and allow the more healthy people to put that miserable Cyborg Ninja wannabe out of it's misery.... but nope they just let Thane dies without lifting a finger to help. I'm starting to think that the writer sucks when it comes to combat scenes... After all it's not about strategy or tactics.

Morinth- She got turned into a Banshee. Wow choices matter!

Jacob and Thane. Jacob is forced to cheat on femshep when he was the FIRST love interest to say I love you. He becomes a Mercenary after stating in the previous game that he hates Mercenaries because their allegiance can be bought. He refuses to go on the ship that has the most important job in the war to stay with his baby mama and does nothing in huerta until yo talk to him on Earth over a comm.

Thane's death is handled extremely poor culminating in Garrus who can be in COMBAT with Thane for nearly half of ME2 saying "glad nobody died" if you aren't a terrible commander and talk down the VS, when Thane's name is on the damn wall. Thane's romance is also handled terribile and all you get is some sloppy porn-ish make out in the middle of the huerta lobby.

The fans of those two characters got the biggest slap in the face from bioware in ME3 and it sickens me.

Kasumi easily.  All you get with her is a brief side assignment on the Citadel and when that's over she completely vanishes from the game.  Just an entry as a war asset and tapped conversation on Liara's shadow broker terminal is all you get after that.

I dunno why everyone is saying Thane, he had one of the better storylines in ME3,

weeeeeeeeelll *cough* actually...where to start... how about a quote?

Weekes: Yeah, I wasn’t in charge of Thane, but I see Thane’s death situation as one of those things that’s the drawback of a large writing team. Lots of followers talk about the Citadel Event in terms of what happens with the VS, but because Thane was optional, it didn’t click with any of us that the player could also have just lost a friend or loved one THERE as well. That was a dropped ball on our end.

So he wasn't written as well as you think since even Weekes admitted the new writing team made mistakes. And they did. BIG TIME. When you get right down to it, not a lot of effort (or homework) went into him at all.

Notice how his illness is magically different?
That his time left got shorter in ME3?
That he doesn't have a unique side mission like the other cameos?
That he doesn't exist in the codex?
That you only have one conversation before the forced death?
Notice how the Kirrahe version of that scene makes a lot more sense when you compare it to Thane's?
Notice how flawed the fight is when you realize shep and her crew plus a cloaked kirrahe (why wouldn't he not still be there?) did nothing to help?
Notice there is no variables if you have both Thane and Kirrahe in that room together?
No one talks about his death after or reacts to it after (above quote)?
How if you don't talk to him he just...dies off screen without a mention?
That the way he died was not because of his actual illness but because he jumped on a sword. Something I doubt the ME2 plot was building up to.

And that's just the friend path The romance has more blunders.

It's exactly the same as the friend path minus that first conversation (and part of a line riiiiight at the end) because they forgot he was an LI and quickly tacked something on Image IPB.

During that first conversation Thane forgets his past character development by going right back to being complacent with death even though at the end of his ME2 romance he is not cool about dying anymore. There is no mention of those past ME2 treatments or his change in attitude and really it feels like the ME2 romance was reduced to a fling by the way they behave in ME3. The kiss is copied and pasted from the Jack romance and there is no paramour achievement.

After that, everything plays out exactly the same (yes even the way she reacts to him being hurt). And after he dies shep acts like nothing happened and all the romancers get is the exact same letter copied and pasted from LotSB.

So thane got the shaft is what I'm trying to say.

Well said. I never bothered importing my Thane-romanced Shepard after seeing what happened to him on my first playthrough. I wish they had changed it to where Thane wanted to join you, had to wrap up things on the Citadel first with Kolyat, but then the Citadel Coup happened. Yeah, he got a cool cutscene but logically why are Shepard and Co. just staring at the fight? Better to make it where the rest of your team gets injured or separated and Thane rushes in to save you but gets impaled, etc.

Jacob got the shaft too but I avoided that guy as much as possible in ME2.

In my opinion, Morinth, no doubt about it. Jacob is right up there, too, if Shepard romanced him.
