I am not looking to stir the pot with this thread. Comments are not enabled in the polls, as a result.

Please do not start spamming this thead with BioWare hate.

I am genuinely interested in what players think about the feasibility of using the current Group Interface for discussing what used to be various forum topics and threads.  Obviously BioWare thinks it's a good idea.  I would like to know what players think about the Group section in it's current form -- how much they use it, what they think of it, have they started using it more, etc.

Here are the links.  Please vote in all 5 questions.

Thanks much.

Afraid that our favourite romance thread will be locked up? I would miss it so much. :(

The interface of Group topics just sucks. I wouldn't mind having threads/discussions relegated to group if it wasn't for awful & non-friendly formatting. I hope Bioware's web team could do something about it

Hopefully, not!

Nope, no stickers, sorry.  You get to vote your opinion which should be reward enough.

I  would make everyone cookies, if I could!

Oh, and people seem to be behaving, which is very nice  :)

Answered all your questions accordingly, but I will say this much..

The community does have moments where they bring things on themselves (aka look at the romance section)

I never did and never honestly will take part in the "Theory" threads. Its not out of hate for them its just a general lack of interest. I rather just wait to see what bioware brings out and discuss other things I find more interesting. However I do agree some improvements should be made to the groups to allow the theory folks a little more ease of use.

Overall I am neutral to both Bioware and the Community in regards to this. Yes its Biowares forums and yes its their rules we must live by, but yes the community should have the ease of use of all sections of the forums.

Best of luck to all you theory folks with your new group(s), I hope bioware makes the group deal a little easier to use. Small suggestion - Post a recruitment thread for your theory group, don't dive into anything real major but it should help you all gather folks.

Yep, this community definitely has its moments -- totally agree.

Your idea on "recruitment threads" for groups is interesting, though I'm not sure BW wants every active group with a forum thread trying to "advertise" their group. That sort of defeats the point of the group, in a way -- people will take to trying to discuss things in the thread, and my guess is that the thread would get locked immediately.

Groups would be a lot more useful if their discussions acted like normal forum areas and not a bare minimum messaging system.

As it is now no search , no go to last post of a discussion ( can do it by clicking next page then typing out the page you think you want in the website address above ), tiny small reply to topic box.

On other hand removing of IT to group should create pressure on BW web team and lead to more group formate. With Romances there groups have to be more lively then ever.

You can increase the size by dragging the corner of the message box, but it will automatically jump back to it's original size, so I have no idea why there even is a function like that.

And I agree, the interface could use some (a lot) of improvement, manually typing BBCode is a bit  annoying.

True that could be rather the pain, maybe a theory support banner that folks can click on? It takes up space on someones forum sig but it turns anyone who uses the banner into a mobile recruiter for the group.

There are other ways of course, just going to require a little creative work. Whatever the case may be the same best wishes still go out, even if I don't support either side of the issue.

Yeah, I've just stopped paying attention to them entirely, which really sucks.

I also don't like to join groups, which means I couldn't post even if I could follow what was going on.

BW could stop being cheap and buy vbulletin software. This forum sw made by BW is a waste of time. Devs and resources dedicated to doing this could be helping on game dev.

I'm in a couple of active groups; they have a few notable advantages to the regular forums, such as being able to keep crazy people out and being able to bypass the censor without being banned.

Well these advantages are moot in some cases.

At least in terms of the IT group:
1.The group desires to keep it open to all and not seclude it even more than it already is.
2.People have already been banned for comments that were made in the group.

Why are there multiple polls? Can you not do more than one question in a poll?

And yes groups are terrible at the moment for visibility and maintaining discussion compared to the forums. Sadly the mods have decided it works well enough as a purgatory for topics they find displeasing. I doubt it'll get any better.

Most likely he couldn't get everything set up in just one post and the several questions that would needed to be asked would be in demand of a lot of options to vote on. So most likely he did so many polls to make room for all the voting responses.

Thanks for participating folks, some interesting results so far.

@CriutchCricket -- No, you cannot ask more than one question in a poll. BioWare actually recommends putting the question into the poll title -- each poll is meant to be only a single question where multiple responses can be added.

At first, I attempted to create a single question that would integrate all these factors, but there would have needed to be 20+ responses to account for different combinations of all variables.

It's just easier to set up a multi-part poll.

I did not vote in the last 3 because I don't use the groups section. It would seem I'm not alone.

Yep, that makes sense.  I am surprised myself by the amount of responses so far for people who don't use the groups. An n>100 is a decently robust sample size, but that also assumes that the sample is random, which it most certainly is not.

Still, surprising and interesting.

I never used groups before but I checked out the interface in order to be able to vote here. It seems I am not the only one who does not use groups and does not intend to, either.

Since use of groups is becoming required to discuss certain topics, a thread with links to all the groups should really be stickied. The group search is terrible.

Most groups barely have any activity going on in them. They're not a good substitute.
