Ok, I said it. I never thought I would find myself complaining about a game's graphics. I'm particularly inclined to believe that a game's quality lies within its gameplay and detail, not the shiny superficial stuff. But it find it hard to accept when a sequel, one that was made with a bigger budget than its predecesors is a graphical downgrade compared to them. And I'm not talking only about the ridiculous 2d sprites and weird ass animations, it goes far beyond that. Basically everything in this game looks uglier, simpler and duller.

Starting by the low definition textures, specially noticeable on the backgrounds, which used to be stunning in ME2. The reused materials everywhere (this already happened in ME2, I'll admit), the low quality models and terrain, like in Mars or Gellix, the lack of detail to the environments, and if there's any, its made with reused materials. The particle effects couldn't look faker. And lastly the shadows look pretty bad, compared to ME2, where they looked darker and combined better with the scenary, in ME3 they look pale and lacking, and sometimes they overlap with the fake texture shadows of the ground, that looks completely pixelated due to the aforementioned low definition. Couldn't they just make objects project real time shadows? its not like its never been done before, even on games with a lot more stuff happening on the screen at a time.

Of all the complains I've heard about this game almost nobody has brought up the graphics, and the few that do are told to **** off, that they're crazy, that the graphics in ME3 are much better than in the last game. Are those people on drugs or something? its completely deluded. Maybe on the consoles the previous games looked like ****, and that's why people think ME3 looks better.

As I said before it might not be that big of an issue, what really bugs me is that people that really are disappointed with this game because of the plot and whatnot see the graphics as one of the redeeming qualities of this game, which is not right. ME3 was rushed in more ways than just the script.

...do you understand just how much content is needed to be squeezed on those two discs?

The graphics seemed to be the same to me, except every thing was darker to fit the overly depressing emo mood of the game. But they definitely weren't as appealing as in ME2.

I thought that ME3 looked fantastic (The eyes!!!) on Xbox 360. I also thought that ME2 looked great, but nowhere near ME3.

I agree.  Of all things to complain about in ME3, graphics aren't one of them (though, I'm also on Xbox 360).  But then again, this is the BSN...

The graphics weren't that great but they weren't garbage in my opinion. Sure the eyes looked lifeless and the textures were low res and they attempted to hide them behind loads of shadows and the overal darker game. They weren't so bad they distracted from the game though. Unlike other... features

ME3 looked the best out of the three games of the series.

No.

A few little things: the horrible skyline on the Citadel, Shepard's running animations on the Normandy and Citadel spring to mind.

Other than that, ME3 looked great.

The graphics in ME3 are the best of the 3 but it has a much "darker" look to it.  ME2 seemed to be more stylized and make use of bright lights and shiny metals.  ME3 really, really toned this look and everything appeared much more subdued.  I do miss the "shiny-ness" of ME2 but there is nothing wrong with ME3.

I would point out the horrible low-rez textures but those are present in all the games.  And well, I do play on pc so I can use texmod, though that really shouldn't be a fix.

I'm guessing the people who are saying ME3 looked great are all Xbox or PS3 users.

Slap that on a PC monitor and you'll see how much like garbage they really are. They bump up the facial textures but leave everything else in 1024 resolution. Maybe even smaller. I know the ground textures are smaller then that. It's tiny. Bioware seriously falls behind when it comes to graphics and such.

It was 2012 - I shouldn't be seeing compression artifacts on Andersons uniform...

Just keep in mind guys: the graphics for all three games are all bloody the same. Same amount of polygons. Same texture resolution. Maybe for ME3, they upgraded some of the NPC wear and added a plasticy filter to the game and gave hair a new texture (which looks like crap on Miranda) but thats it. They carried textures over and everything is pretty much the same. Sure, new textures are now more detailed but thats not a graphic improvement since the polygons are the same and they move the same.

Um I play on PC on a 56" plasma tv at full resolution and while there are a few lo rez textures overall the graphics in ME 3 are great IMO.

Then it would appear I simply have higher standards for a game made within the past two years. I wish I didn't.

It's not about graphics. It's about Story and character building. If you want graphics play on PC or another game.

No I appreiciate great graphics as much as the next guy but I play for the story and gameplay not graphics. IMO they look fine.

Well I guess I'm the crazy one. I just wanted someone to convince me I was wrong, that the ME3 graphics are indeed better. Maybe its not even about the graphics, but whenever I play the game I just feel it doesnt look good, I don't know why. That said, one way or the other I still think the graphics are somewhat inferior to other games from the last few years, regardless of the fact that ME is story centered, a bit more care could have been put into it. Saying it is one of the best games of the year graphicwise is plain ludicrous.

Also thanks for the title change, in no way I believe the graphics are garbage though, I just used it as an attention grabber.

After two games where everyone looked the same, then all of a sudden everyone got a makeover, that's why they all looked weird to me, it wasn't the graphics, it was the redesigns.

Thats your opinion, you are free to have it, but I disagree. Maybe its because I play ME3 on vonsole and not on master race processing box(PC), but to me the graphics are fine and look great. Of course I set the brightness slightly higher than need for all my games, But it still looks better to me than even ME1 did.

I noticed the reskins but I think they look imensly better than the old especially Ash. Overall I think the graphics in ME 3 are the best of the series.

I don't think they're garbage but I do agree that they are worse than ME2's graphics.

The graphics on most modern games are designed with the ability to run on six year old console hardware.  There isn't going to be much in the way of graphical enhancements until the next generation of consoles are released.  PC gamers get to utilize the latest GPUs.  Devs need to cater to the widest common denominator for sales and texture resolution is a minor quibble to the vast majority of their gamers.

That being said, ME3 is the best looking game of the three...especially ramped up on PC.  The most glaring graphical issue I see are the horribly low res clothing and armor textures.  Bioware bumped up the face textures but suits and armor (look at an Atlas mech or the Alliance uniform) are blocky and unclear.  This is contrasted by the amazing "Texmod" mods for the PC version that add actual high res textures.  I can't play the game without them now!

Wish the ME team would have followed the DA team lead and released a high res texture pack for PC players...or at least included them with the PC version.  Alas...not enough money or dev time for them to do that, these days.
