Yes, ME3 textures are garbage, they are fugly, lowres. The funny thing is that they lied in a twitter post that the pc version will get a high resolution texture pack. Of course they never released one.

Why not?

its not the greatest looking game in the world, but it was hardly the worst

besides mass effect had much more significant issues with its main appealing factors anyway

I liked the graphics. Of course I play on a Sandy Bridge i5 without a discrete GPU. I am curious to see what Bioware will do with frostbite 2.

That's what you get when you develop games for half a decade old hardware with no hard drives*... cf Moore's law.

* disc swapping being the reason ME2 recruitment missions had to be split into two phases. Genius!

Frankly, because no one cares about PC gamers. PCs are a nightmare because, unlike consoles, they are not designed from ground-up to restrict what you can do with them.
Of course this inevitably fails because developers don't grasp that what they'e trying to do is physically impossible; security engineering is not something you can get your interns to do - just ask Prof. Ross Anderson at our Computer Laboratory.

There is a PC mod that polishes the game.

Personally I didn't have any problems with the graphics.

It's nott he year a game is relased that should set the standard on what hardware was used to create it but when it actually went into development. I'm not saying this as a excuse, but don't know what Bioware had access to at the time ME3 went into development, what we got might have been the best they had to offer at the time. The programmers might have only had knowledge on that paticular engine at the time, combined with the limitations of the home consoles its probably the best they could do with what they had and what was expected of them.

However ME3 is still a visually stunning game when compared to the previous installments.

In places I would agree about the graphics, it just doesn't look as good as ME2, especially if you compare first act (probably due to ME2 having smaller number of assets at beginning). But as a whole it looks good and with improved mechanics plays better than ever, but there is only so much you can do with the engine and older hardware. Pretty much on par with ME2.

Halo 4 looks beautiful only because it had cash thrown at it and was specifically tailored to Xbox so Microsoft knows how to exploit there own machine for the best - and downloads patches every other day.

My issue was the music, it went from the huge orchestral feel of ME2 to a more subdued smaller less epic style. I found it a bit jarring - even though I like the music I still wanted something akin to Suicide mission form 2 during the huge space battle scenes.

And for what it's worth ME3 does a greater job than most games, looking at the previews of Bioshock Infinite I am really underwhelmed be the graphics.

The game looks fine on my PC so don't understand what the problem is.

The Graphics are okay but for some reason the first level looks particularly awful.

there is no real issue.  The clothing and armor textures are very low res.  you can use Texmod to improve them.  Just an annoyance.

Odd, I felt the graphics and the aesthetics for ME3 where both great. I am pretty much hateful of ME3 but I will give credit where its due.

I thought they were very good actually.

The graphics in this game look fine...so long as you keep your eyes on the main foreground action. The background stuff, however, is simply awful.

While I think any company making a game for both console and PC should release a hi-res texture pack for PC owners (who typically have superior video systems), my ME3 looks great. Of course, I disable all motion blur/depth of field effects so everything on my screen is sharp and detailed.

I thought that ME3 looked fantastic (The eyes!!!) on Xbox 360. I also thought that ME2 looked great, but nowhere near ME3.

I agree.  Of all things to complain about in ME3, graphics aren't one of them (though, I'm also on Xbox 360).  But then again, this is the BSN...

Agreed as well. I couldn't help but stare at the reapers destroying the scenery, admire my devilishly handsome Shepard, examine the huskified species (after I killed them), examine the view of the Geth dreadnought while in that funnel... I could certainly go on.

On the X360, ME3 definitely looks better than ME2 and ME1.

It's not about graphics. It's about Story and character building. If you want graphics play on PC or another game.

Good said.

Graphics was always on last place of my list of condition for good RPG. That's probably reason why I'm now playing Inquisitor with graphics of 10 years old game and have no problem with it. Image IPB

ME3 had barely 2 years of development, your argument backfired.

How did you disable DoF? and more important, there is DoF in ME3? I never really noticed.

Also, I would use Texmode, but no matter what I do the game just crashes on start when I try to use it.

I'll agree with OP, ME3 sometimes looks horrible, but there is more problems, than textures resolution.
Through walkthrough I felt lack of animation. You can see it in dialogues: very often this is just to 3D-models that just standing and opening their mouthes. No facial expressions, no changing of poses, no gestures. I think this is because the don't have much time for polishing the game.

Also lightning system is worse. You can remember this beatufil illumination that change the atmosphere of the game on different planets at ME1 and you must remember this «dark side» feeling because of this cold and faint lights and lots of shadows in ME2. ME3 has quite «indifferent» illumination that doesn't reflect anything, it's just illumination. I think it should emphasize depression of the ME universe, but there is only traces of it on some locations.

To summarize:
- Low-res textures
- Lack of animation and camera work
- Simple illumination without artistic conception

The ME games look a lot better than most console games I've played. And that includes the Assassin's Creed franchise. The only other game that 'looks better' is Uncharted really.

None of them hold a candle to the Witcher 2 though xD but ME's 'face graphics' (or whatever you want to call it) are really great. I remember how awesome the detail in Zaeed's face was.

One thing that bothers me a lot are the textures. Why are they so crappy for PC? Why doesn't BioWare spend more time refining that for PC, we already have to get a ported version, is it too hard to fix the textures?

Because they don't have to. Most of the sales for the game will be on consoles, so they focus the most on that. PC is more of an afterthought with most triple A titles.
