If everyone played as a team then no it dosen't.
Does it matter if you come in 4th?

Nope. The scoreboard is another button press between me and the next match. Ready up, biotches.

Not if you, and your team, enjoyed the game and felt it went smoothly.

If you're in last and its a fairly even spread that's fine, but if it's clear you got carried then you should rethink your play, maybe drop a difficulty or try a different class/weapon. But also remember that sometimes there's going to be a player who just mops up hard and fast, when the player in first has more points then all other three combine, that player is probably really good (for the difficulty.)
But it really comes down to if you feel outclassed. I like to try to be on top of the scoreboard, it's really the only thing to challenge yourself in this game, especially when sometimes you just get merc'd by lag with a teleporting or invisible sync-kill or getting DC'd a random.

It all depends. If I'm testing out some new build that I thought would be totally awesome for DPS....yeah. If everyone in the match has a harrier or typhoon X....no. Most of time I'm playing my Justicar, so it's not like I expect to be on top in the first place. There are times when I am, and that's when I worry about how strong the group is.

I see it this way:
If there are no point differences greater than 1.5x between 2nd/3rd and 3rd/4th and the team extracted, then it was a good, smooth enough game.
If there are some point differences between 1.5x and 3x between the same players, then it's a case of either bad luck (like getting suddenly sync-killed in the beginning of a wave), bad playing (incorrect builds/loadouts and/or shooting bad) or low-damage playing style (volus etc.). The closer the difference is to 3x and the less medals this player gets, the more probable "bad playing" is.
If the difference is more than 3x, then it's not even "bad playing", it's blatant and intentional leeching. You have to make some special effort like avoiding fights completely to score THAT low.

Not always true, you can have very similar scores between 2nd/3rd/4th and it says nothing about the game. Or a player using a support-ish character (doind objectives etc) may score 4th, but contributes more than third. I dont think scores are relvant at all, too dependant on classes/maps/other players, it's merely how smooth the game goes.
eg: Very smooth game, decent time, very few consumables used:

vs this, where again the scores are close, but it was a shocker, the PUGs were constantly having revivathons, sync kills, and having to solo waves.

This is leeching:

(yes it's only silver, i was trying out the "new" Volus Vanguard...)

Exactly.
I'm more than happy to be 4th on a good team, and likewise, even if I'm 1st by a large margin and had to essentially carry the team, if they all were clearly trying, I have no complaints.
It's understandable to worry about score if you've been playing forever, have mastered the game's mechanics, and have a mostly full manifest, because there isn't much left for you to aim for, but in the end it's a team game, and the point of each game is to extract. If you did that, and you tried your hardest, 4th is fine.

The only time I come in last is if I'm using a Support Volus... but with an Assault Volus I can normally finish 2nd at least.
There was this PUG I was in, I played 2 games with this guy then I got sick of carrying him, entering into Wave 10.. under 10k points both games. The only reason he got close to 20k was because of the -Unknown Bonuses.- So yes, sometimes it does matter if you come in last.

I gotta say, all these posts have been very supportive. I'm glad people are emphasizing teamwork and fun rather than arbitrary numbers. It's nice to see positive threads.

I'm new to playing & the first couple matches I was dead last by a good 10k, I felt bad because I spent more time trying to figure out whats going on & trying to keep up with them than actually helping the team. Since then I've managed to come first once, & now I'm usually in the middle. But points don't matter, it still doesn't show how good of a player you are or if you're a team player, which is very important.
For example there was this one team member who on I think Glacier's toxic map, she kept dying. I wanted to punch her in the face. Either she would die from the seeker swarm, from running without a head directly into a group of enemies alone or something else stupid, yet she still got a higher score from everyone else, by a good 25k. We had to revive her at least 15 times the whole game. A lot of times she would be on her own across the map, & the idiot shot at the seeker swarm multiple times. This was no newbie either. I don't think she deserved those points, where as the other 3 of us worked together & big surprise, we all came within a couple hundred points of each other. We all kicked her from the next match.

Let me be the first to be uncool enough to admit it does matter. Anything but last.
