After that, a Screen will pop-up saying "Welcome to the ME2 Configuration Utility"
Go to the Save Games tab and then it will appear "This page displays the ME2 Save Game Options"
Select Copy Mass Effect 1 Save games. Choose the folder that has the Mass Effect Save Data (Default: Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect/Save)
Click the folder Save(Don't enter it, just click it) and press OK
Your Mass Effect 2 has an import option ready now. Just go to the game now.

I'm having the exact same problems as the two people at the top of this post and it's very frustrating!!!... I've been all over Google, Bioware, EAGames, and/ or Origin for the answer(s) to this question, and the third post is absolutely no help at all, because it does not work... Anyone?!?!... I'll spend another "couple more hours" tonight searching before I give up, and maybe someone might help out?!

The launcher way should work, unless you point it to the wrong folder or don't have an endgame save.
Anyway, In your ME1 savegame folder should be a endgame save for every character that completed the game (or even for every time the game was completed).
These are named "Char_<long_bunch_of_numbers>_MassEffect.save" or similar. And no these are not the "characterName_number_masseffect.save"s.
Copy these, go to the ME2 savegamefolder (\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\Save)
(where the folders for every character are) and paste the files into the "ME1" folder.
AFAIK (not entirly sure on this one) import only works with these Char_... saves, so if you don't have one (likely if the launcher way does not work), you have to replay from your last save (maybe autosave) up until ME1 creates one.
