So... can someone explain to me how the support conversations work?

Fighting next to someone or paired up with someone will accrue "support points", the more you fight, the more you get. (Paired Up gets tons more, so do that. In fact, do it anyway, it makes the game a lot easier..) Once you have enough points, the conversations will unlock in the support menu.

Higher ranked supports result in better stat boosts. among other things, so it's a good idea to have everyone talk to everyone in their list.

Pairs aren't locked, right? I can switch them up at any time?

Yep. You can transfer the rear character in a pair to an adjacent character, or just split them up whenever you wish.

So I've been really getting back into the swing of things on my Hard playthrough lately. Slowly but surely I'm building up a super squad. Those spotpass characters that pop up from time to time are good tests to find out where everyone's at. Trying to get everybody to a rating of 200+ for right now. I remember getting utterly destroyed in the first Future Past DLC on my Normal playthrough. Not having a squad full of monsters wasn't the best thing to do. I remember only Donnel, Noire, and my guy being particularly overpowered, having ratings of like 260+, so their stats were pretty good. I want to eventually get everyone around that 230-260 range on this playthrough. I didn't have many A supports either which I'm sure would have been a big help.

I finally got around to getting a 3DS and this game about 2 weeks ago, and loving it. It's nice to see a return of child system to the game

Unlimited number of A level supports is one of the best changes they've ever made to the series.

I still have a grudge over the game not telling you what an S support was.

You mean you didn't know about the marriage thing beforehand? A quick look at the wikipedia page told me about it before I even had a 3DS to buy the game.

Nope. I did no research on the game. I picked up game on a whim when is saw a deal with it for £20. It never told me what it meant in game and I ended up married to Cordelia by accident.

You shouldn't have to read up on Wikipedia to play a game.:pinched:

There are worse options. It could've been Nowi.

It's kind of an important detail if you wound up married to some NPC without your realizing it.

I see your point but that's still kind of irrelevant. It doesn't hinder you ability to play the game which you implied.

Same story here, except with Lissa. It doesn't help that the supports didn't even hint at romance until it was too late.

Owain more than made up for it though.

True, but it does hinder my enjoyment of the game.

Assuming everyone saves after battles, (doesn't the game send you to the save screen after a battle?) I don't see how "accidentally marrying" anyone is a problem. You can always reload and lose nothing.

My avatar married (and subsequently divorced) everyone. Even Ricken, who is not quite male Nowi, but I still think he should be in a playpen with some stuffed toys or something. Fire-resistant stuffed toys.

True. I save after every battle like 90% of the time.

So he's playing around in his support conversations too? I've only seen a few of his so far in my latest playthrough. He died pretty much near the beginning of the game the last two times.

I used to just skip saving i don't now. Especially not anymore since i'm hunting down all of the support conversations.
