It looks like they wanted to make him similar to his PoR incarnation. And failed horribly.

I always figured it was his Vanguard armor on his PoR self. Really doesn't fit.

Eh, you won't ever see it in your game unless you actually buy that particular DLC anyway.

Meh, I'll probably get it anyway, just to have every single class.

I'm guessing it's a variation on what the Mercenary or Hero class wears in this game. Still ugly looking though.

Oh I know that much. Just why the hell they'd have Eirika, a sword-user, wearing a bridal outfit when that's not feasible at all in combat is just silly and something I can't fathom. There's no reason for it. Not unless that outfit's made of some delicate but incredibly strong material. Which it won't be.

Here's my reasoning, which is just as ridiculous as the class itself:

In Sacred Stones, I think four of Eirika's A-Support endings result in marriage. (Seth, Innes, Saleh, possibly Forde although I forget) so perhaps she just got the urge to charge into battle as she was getting married, so taken with the idea that she didn't even bother changing into something more practical.

I'm guessing the DLC Eirika is a part of will have some sort of explanation.

Its like Steam pretty much. You'll own the digital version and you can download it from the eshop app whenever you want as many times as you want.

The pairing system looks like it will add a level of complexity to the tactics which has been needed for a while. I'm not complaining mind, just I'm glad they're keeping a lot of the staples but adding a feature that makes it more complex and god knows they needed a better conversation system than what's come previously.

The North American demo is up on the EShop, folks! I'm downloading it now.

eeeeeeeee!

...ahem. This may be the only demo I actually exhaust all the uses of.

Just so you know, I had to use the search function, the demo didn't show up under "demos", because that would have made too much sense. It also didn't show up under "new arrivals", unless it was masquerading as Hello Kitty Picnic.

Okay, here's the deal:

-you choose between normal, hard and lunatic, but permadeath is disabled for the demo.

-your avatar is locked as male.

-you get two battles to whet your appetite, which is more than I was expecting.

-the pair up mechanic isn't available on normal mode, but it is on hard and lunatic. To be honest, I didn't use it all that much, it's just like Rescue, only with benefits instead of penalties. You don't need to be "paired up" to grow bonds.

-the game is amazing.

My only little quibble was the voice acting in story scenes - the lines themselves aren't fully voiced, you just get grunts and the occasional "what" or "yes." Thankfully, this can be disabled in the options. Just seems more like FE when it's silent.

The demo isn't here in the UK yet. Probably wont be for another month at the very least since we're getting it in April.

I feel for you guys across the pond, I really do. Did they give a reason for the 2-month delay? The only thing I'm seeing people suggest on the internets is the dual audio tracks.... which makes no sense to me. Hopefully they give you guys discounted DLC or something.

...speaking of DLC, I was just doing a quick tally of how much it would cost to get it all, provided it's in the same ballpark as the Japanese version.

I'm looking at about $70-80 for all of it. Unless I'm terrible at math or converting yen to dollars.

Sometimes it takes longer because when it comes to a text heavy game like FE it has to translated to multiple languages for the EU version and that obviously takes time.

57.29USD for the first series of DLC it seems, while it's 26.68USD for the second series. That's if they're going the route of the JP version though as you said. Or we could be both wrong.

I really hope the dlc doesn't cost that much.

Individual DLC maps cost around £2-£3 by themselves. I don't think it's so much of a "buy all to get the full experience" as it is just getting the ones you specifically think are worth getting. It is kind of ridiculous if one wanted it all though. Mind you I don't know how much storage space these DLCs take up.

Maybe well get an edition that comes with all the dlc in a year.

The default SD card that comes with a 3DS is only 2GB, the one in the bundle is double that size, and I can see why.

2GB card = 15000 free blocks, the fire emblem demo is 1024. Granted, the demo has animated cutscenes and whatnot, I'm not sure what the DLCs will have aside from maps and text conversations.

But they'll be clogging up your sd card regardless, if you get a lot of them.

Well after playing the demo all I can say is WOW! Combat keeps a good pace, the starting units all seem to be pretty good, and lunatic is ****ing hard. The 3DS looks ti kick ass this year.

BTW, does anyone know how much the best/worst stat will effect the growth rate?

Yup, there was a lot of that over here.

I can't say for sure, but a basic avatar has stat growth chances of

HP - 80%
STR - 55%
MAG - 50%
SPD - 50%
SKL - 50%
LUCK - 55%
DEF- 40%
RES - 30%

I played the demo a bunch of times with different best/worst stats, but every level up seemed the same. (and quite good, which is a nice change of pace from Shadow Dragon, in which level ups with no stat increases were common.) You can't get enough to tell, really.

Perhaps the rates will just shuffle around, say you picked RES as your best stat and DEF as your worst... maybe RES would become 80%, DEF at 30% and HP at 40%. It's probably more complex than that, though.

Oh, curious... did you buy any games for your 3DS?

I'm thinking it will be best gets +10% worst gets -5% or something similar. I'm almost positive that the HP growth rate will not be lower than 70% for the majority of units.

I looked on the wiki and it seems that most characters have very good growth rates compared to previous titles, so I think that is why the growths are generally good. Although Lissa never got a HP increase for me.

Oh, curious... did you buy any games for your 3DS?

Tales of the abyss and I got Pokemon White 2 for free from a friend. Both are pretty damn cool.

I'm just thinking about the Avatar - if you pick HP as your worst stat, I'm thinking it'll be a lot less than a 70% growth rate, because if it isn't, everyone would pick HP as their worst stat and take a much less noticable hit..

I know having HP as your worst stat starts you off with less HP, but if that's the only real difference, toss them a seraph's robe (or whatever it's called now) and the penalty would be all but negated.

Well the penalty for HP as a worst stat is greater than the others so maybe the growth penalty is greater as well. I just don't see the growth rates falling too much due to worst stat. 50% or less seems way too low.

Played the demo again today, and have grown to love the pair-up mechanic. It's pretty much required to live through Lunatic, not so much for the stat bonuses, but for the fact that you can hide your weak healer (or your avatar) behind a hardier unit and she can actually survive the first turn.

I find the difficulty jump between hard and lunatic to be rather large. Hard is still rather easy - in fact, "hard" feels more like "normal". I can still pretty much do whatever I want on the first turn on the first map. But on lunatic... nope. You have to know what you're doing. Anyone who wants a challenge won't be disappointed. And as far as I know, there's a difficulty harder than lunatic that can be unlocked.

I swear this has been the longest month ever. Any other year, we'd be September by now.
