Oh, and can we start referring to this title as "My Little Sisters Can't Be This Cute" already?

Sounds intriguing. My interest rose considerably with having a choice between two opposing factions. Based on one of the articles I think I might go with Nohr for first playthrough; "(...) will side you with the war-mongering Nohr and provide a more challenging campaign centered around a mission to reform the kingdom from the inside." Also heard talk about a neutral path which would have some potential as well, depending on what it contains.

Well I need to get myself a 3DS first and Awakening at that. Want to experience that one before hand.

Nohr definitely reminds me of Britannia. Maybe playing the campaign will create a Lelouch Vi Britannia vibe!

You should play Sacred Stones instead of Awakening since its better. Gangrel was an awesome troll though.

Finish Persona 3 & 4 first -- Both games outweighs Fire Emblem.

Oh, they are in my schedule, and a PS Vita I intend to get before I buy a 3DS.

There are other major differences, too, though, and this is where it gets tricky. The story for White Kingdom and Black Kingdom is the same until chapter 6. After chapter 6, the storyline splits. Depending on how you purchased the game, this is what will happen:

Physical version (4,700 yen excluding tax): You will be locked into the path of the version you purchased. However, you can buy the other story path at a steep discount (2,000 yen) as DLC if you wish to play the other path. Whether you’ll need to start a new save file to access the other path or if you can switch after chapter 6 is unclear.

Digital version (4,700 yen excluding tax): You will pay your 4,700 yen upfront and play through the game until chapter 6. After chapter 6, you will be asked to choose which path you want. Once you’ve chosen a path, the other story path will be permanently locked away until you purchase it as DLC (again, 2,000 yen).

You’re probably wondering what the major difference between the physical and digital versions is. The difference is that the digital version gives you the advantage of playing the story up until chapter 6 without committing to either Hoshido or Nohr, whereas in the physical version you’re locked into one of the two paths, depending on whether you bought White Kingdom or Black Kingdom.

The Fire Emblem If website mentions that both story paths have about the same amount of content as Fire Emblem: Awakening, individually. Additionally, there will also be a third storyline available as downloadable content, although details of this story are not yet available.

Finally, the website also reveals a Fire Emblem If Special Edition, which has a special two-in-one cartridge of both versions of the game. It also includes the third storyline, which will be available upon release, in addition to a limited edition art book and a limited edition Fire Emblem 0 (Cypher) TCG card. The Special Edition will cost 9,250 yen (without tax).

Asking you to pick a side at purchase is beyond dumb.

I know its FE, but if the same thing ends up happening in the west, I'll have serious reservations about picking it up.

That's the thing that annoys me the most. I don't know which side I will prefer until I play the damn game. I could end up picking up the mediocre side and end up not enjoying the game.

Yup. How could you have any idea where the story will go based on what we know before playing? Sure, one factions glory seeking and one isn't, but we know jack all other than that. Its odd to be expected to research up on it beforehand.

Maybe Nintendo think their making commentary on politics or something. Choose your allegiance based on completely arbitrary reasons! I'll take the one with "onii-chan!" tbh

Exactly. We don't know what the story would be like on either side. If you took the black side would you be evil? Or would you be fixing the faction from the inside? You can't expect the average consumer to look up that stuff online.

Less Fire emblem and more Nintendo's Capcom level stupidity.

Nintendo be confusing Fire Emblem with Pokemon.

Well hopefully we'll get just one game in US/EU. If not, I'm just gonna trust some friends of mine which to pick.

Yeah, it really is pretty scummy that this is even happening in the first place. What the hell Nintendo? The only other series they've ever done this with that isn't Pokemon was Zelda with the Oracle games on GBC, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. Those two titles were alright though, because the games were almost completely different from each other, with different lands, plot and mechanics effectively making them their own games save for some recurring characters. The only thing that really linked them was the linked story obtained when you beat one game, took the password at the end and input it into a new save on the other, it unlocked extra story (along with a bunch of other secrets and items, some of which existed in the other game) after the normal final boss and revealed the truth behind everything. It was actually pretty cool back then.

It doesn't seem like it's going to be anything like this at all for these two titles though, going off of what we know so far...

So apparently, no idea if this is truly official or not, but it seems like us Westerners will be getting the Hoshido/White Kingdom version only, with the Nohr/Black Kingdom Story being available as DLC at a reduced price. Still no word on this third DLC only story as of yet. Once again though, there will be a version available sometime after launch that has everything. No idea if that is just Japan only though. Yet again, no idea if any of this is truly official.

Keep your fingers crossed for a merged Western release.

On another note, Nohr players have to work to change it from the inside? That's it. I'm naming my avatar Suzaku.

I kind of wish there was an option to become a loyalist and genuinely commit to Nohr's warmongering. An actual evil path would be a breath of fresh air for Fire Emblem and would contrast nicely with its main themes.

Well, apparently there will be choices you make throughout the game, which can affect which units you can recruit. No idea if it will expand beyond this to the point of changing the story itself though.
