I still don't like the seperate story idea.
Unless they confirm it won't happen in the west I probably wont bother with this game.
Yeah that's one of the one's they didn't fix.

New news.

This actually alleviates some though not all of my worries.
I like the idea of being able to effect the battlefield, and the new phoenix mode doesn't bother me since I wont be using it anyway.
Although I'm not a fan of removing the limited number of uses on weapons. I could see it on lower tier weapons since it can get annoying to buy stockpiles of them but the point of a lot of the higher tier weapons is that they're very powerful because they're limited in use.
Of course, being able to grind unlimited money with DLC and every spot on the map having shops where you can buy these high tier weapons kind of ruined it in Awakening anyway.

The Weapons and magic Triangles are getting a tweak/revision in the upcoming game.
Now it's Swords/Magic beat Axes/Bows beat Lances/Dark weapons.
Article also reveals new character names and there voice actors.
Here is an expanded article which goes into more detail on weapon specials and ability specials.

And the slow destruction of series staples continue in the name of "accessibility". R.I.P. Fire Emblem. I hardly knew ye.

We still don't know if that is the case for outside of Japan, even then they will be two completely unique scenarios with different playstyles (White being more lenient like Awakening and Black being more like the older Fire Emblem games) so it does sit in a bit of a grey area there as technically only the first six scenarios are the same.

Marie pls.
Anyway I lied. TW3 is downloading way too slow so booted up Fire Emblem.
First impressions: I hate Chrom already. Otherwise fun combat.
Yeah, Chrom's a typical , dumb, goody goody, smite evil, anime protagonist. His sister's better than he is. There's one guy that might be a CAWs for concern but you'll probably like him when he shows up.

Neither of these games are going to be like the older Fire Emblem. Changes to the mechanics have seen to that. Whatever, I'm just salty

Can't really fault Nintendo for making changes as Awakening had a lot of changes to traditional FE formula and it is one of the most successful games in the series and the best selling game in the series outside of Japan.

No, you can definitely fault them. Not from the perspective of this being good for business but that's not really the issue here. Again, it's whatever. You either die a good series or live long enough to see yourself become terrible.

Someone's been watching The Dark Knight...... you aren't going to get half caught in a warehouse explosion are you? ![]()
In seriousness though I try to wait and play the game until I pass judgement as there have been a number of games I dismissed due to changes or bias but when I finally sat down and played them they turned out pretty good.

Assuming the two campaigns come in a single package next year (shouldn't even be separate in Japan) I'll still give it a go. I just have little expectation now. That's probably for the best. Hype tends to lead to disappointment. If I'm already disappointed it can't get much worse.

Frankly I just wish they would unveil if it is going to be a single card game or a dual card game. That would at the very least help people who are on the fence make a decision as that is the big factor for many people.

No sense in rushing on Nintendo's and Intelligent Systems end I'm guessing. Who knows when in 2016 the other territories are getting this game(s). They'll probably save that for when it gets closer to release. But yeah, that is a big deciding factor for us playing the waiting game.
A discussion on the latest news as well as information from the latest Famitsu article.
Famitsu will also have new weekly articles leading up to the Japanese release.
Again nothing is revealed about the release outside of Japan.

Keeping up with this game for another month might be the worst thing I can do. Read a siliconera article on Phoenix mode and felt like punching something. Accessibility is not inherently wrong but this need to appeal to everyone to the point that you take challenge completely out of a game is borderline disrespectful. A sense of accomplishment has been inherent in game design since its inception as far as I know and without challenge that's gone. You literally can't lose.
And I hope they worded it wrong because apparently all three separate campaigns amount to as much story as Awakening's one.

Phoenix mode is optional... and for me ignored. As for other news it may be best to take it with a grain of salt since we are dealing with a translation and they could have made an error or interpreted something wrong.

I know it is. I hope it's utterly ignored by everyone that gets the game. More than that, I hope enough people get upset at its inclusion that IS takes notice and never does something this asinine again. Because Casual mode wasn't enough, apparently. Of course, there are enough IPs under the sun to possibly find what I'm looking for elsewhere but I don't like the minds behind franchises I'm familiar with being so willing to compromise the essence of their IP in the name of accessibility and "success". Because being niche is taboo, apparently. There's better ways to expand your audience and welcome newcomers without holding their hands like a bunch of brainless children.

Yup. To me its just like having the narrative and action modes in ME3. I definitely won't touch them and I doubt they took up much development time.
And just like ME3, there's no shortage of more questionable stuff to criticise instead.

Even as somebody who would never use either of those options, I don't get why them being options in the game is so offensive to it.
Plus, Awakening was going to be the last Fire Emblem game if they didn't bring in more sales. The series was suffering from a major lack of people buying it before that.
So yeah, they probably consider being niche pretty bad in this case.
If it means getting more Fire Emblem, then I'm perfectly fine with people who need their hand held as long as I have the option to turn it off.
