It's been getting great reviews everywhere. I've been warned away from the Gametrailers review as it contains some pretty big spoilers.

IGN - 9.6

Gameinformer - 9/10

The Escapist - 5/5

Destructoid - 9/10

RPGamer - 4.5/5

And EB Games is no longer selling the game early. Apparently it was an error. Sigh.

crap...looks like im buying a DS. Man its been forever since I played on a handheld. I remember when the Gameboy color came out, and then I moved to PC games. Looks like things r coming full circle.

3DS. Don't go making a schoolboy error of getting a standard DS now, whole other generation. :s /assumingyoudidntmean3DSinthefirstplace

And yeah, if I wasn't hyped to the moon for this game before I definitely am now with these glowing reviews everywhere,

Fire lemblem is the only reason I got the 3ds, I swear Nintendo likes to put Fire emblem on all their different systems to force you to buy both handheld a home console.

Fire Emblem is one of the best gaming franchises out there. They've made twelve Fire Emblem games -- excluding Shadow Dragon for the DS, which is just a remake of the first game in the franchise -- that all have great plots and characters.

IMO, if you want to get into the series -- and if you have a Gamecube/Wii -- you should start with Path of Radiance. If you have a Wii, be sure to get its sequel Radiant Dawn. Those two to me are the best in the franchise. But Fire Emblem Rekka no Ken, which was the first FE to be released internationally, is also a good place to start. You could also give Sacred Stones a whirl.

Rekka no Ken and Sacred Stones are for the GBA, FYI.

Best deal you'll get for a 3DS XL. Do get an XL if you decide to buy a 3DS.

There is also the Fire Emblem 3DS but its only available in the smaller size.

Nope. Terrible.

Buying a system for one game is not something I normally advocate doing, but I'm guilty of it, and for Fire Emblem.

Twice. (the Wii and the 3DS, although the 3DS was helped some by the Zero Escape sequel)

I've been a fan of the tactical RPG since the days of Shining Force on the Genesis, up through Vandal Hearts on the PS1, Gladius on the PS2... ALL OF THEM. ALL OF THEM DESERVE TO BE PLAYED BY MORE PEOPLE. Sadly, the genre just isn't that "accessible" - it is, though. People seem to think these games are more complicated than they actually are.

I hope that Awakening will open a lot of new fans' eyes. We need more of these games to be localized.

Well it looks like you picked a really good place to start.

I really hope this game does well over here. I know it broke all sorts of records in Japan.

I had a feeling you first timers will be pleasantly surprised. Oh, if you don't like doing maps over again you. May want to do casual rather than classic.

According to Serenesforest.net, the first DLC for Awakening is out, and is free until March 6th, after which it becomes $2.50. It looks like we're getting things a bit cheaper, as in Japan it was 300 yen, which equals about $3.25 USD/CAD.

The first spotpass set to be released is Blazing Sword, which I expected. They'll probably continue with the rest of the Western releases before going into Japan-only ones.

Come on, tuesday! Where are you?

Just recently started playing The Sacred Stones again. My regret at not buying a 3DS when I had plenty of time to save up enough money has grown.:crying:

That reminds me, I got Sacred Stones for my 3DS sometime after the handheld launched alongside a bunch of other GBA and NES games for completely free as an "apology" from Nintendo for the launch lineup sucking and there being no games out for the following few months. I already have it on GBA but I might as well play it on my 3DS while I wait for this.

ANIME VA ALL THE THINGS! I'm glad Tara Platt is in there. I'm assuming Yuri Lowenthal is playing some "emo" character.

The multiplayer features only use local connections, sadly. Which helps tons when you're the only person in your town who even knows what Fire Emblem is.

Streetpass functions are another thing I've never been able to make use of, for anything. Maybe in Japan everyone walks around with a 3DS in their pocket, but here you'll just drain your battery.

On a whim, I checked EBGames' website, and according to the store locator, they had FE in stock, so I called...

...they have six copies. I pre-ordered and never got a friggin' call.

I'm off to town!

Normally, I'd be wild, but I think this is a special case - I highly doubt they were supposed to sell them until the 4th, so I wouldn't have gotten a call until tomorrow.

...I walked into the store, saying I was there to pick up a pre-order, gave them my information and whatnot, (it was an entirely new staff, which may have been in my favor here), and as the clerk was ringing up the game, I heard her say, "huh, that's weird...it's not working." She looked over at her co-worker, who looked just as puzzled. One of them said, "It's out, right?"

It was at that moment that i realized I may not be walking out of that store with a game. BUT, despite what the giant "FEBRUARY 4TH" poster on the wall beside them said, Another clerk said, "yup, it should be."

The other clerk took over at the computer and a few seconds later I had the game in my hand.  No pre-order artbook (they didn't even get any in, I was probably the only pre-order) but at this point I don't CARE.

I HAS IT.
