All I know is that I actually want that game whereas Fates will be picked up on a bargain sale.

Gonna have a long wait there.  Awakening is still sold at it's original price and I have never seen it on sale for more than $10, I asked at a few places and they tell me it's still selling well.

I know places. I might not have to and besides it's not coming out for some time. I have no interest in supporting crummyness.

"This is a nod to the Fire Emblem franchise"

Yup. Can't say I can blame that opinion.

I bet the first thing the localization team said when they first saw this was:

"How the F*%# are we going to do this?"

I like how he doesn't even sound all that confident in trying to sell you on it. Well, at least he didn't say something like, "This looks way more Shin Megami Tensei than it does Fire Emblem." No one's casual enough to say that at 26 minutes and 32 seconds into their live reaction of Nintendo's Press Conference

Ya, all the videogame "journalists" out there are all trying to be the company man and selling a product. They know this direction is garbage.

I don't get this mentality that the guys like the bloke in this video have -- This overall attitude towards the Persona games. "I can't bring myself to care about this highschool thing, dating girls yadayadayada useless self-congratulating drivel". Do people not realize how miniscule the whole "dating" aspect thing is in Persona? This crossover doesn't carry the stylish flow and subleties of Persona -- Perhaps it's something that's come about since the immense success of Persona 4 that it is apparently the starking representation of the entire franchise as a whole. Heck, even Persona 4 isn't as juvenile as this crossover. Sure it has high school students but it actually treats the high school setting with authentic respect to compliment the supernatural occurences and underlying thematic values of its story -- Lately it seems people are busy placing it on a pedestal of "how not do it" despite that in the past it's been heralded as one of the best JRPG franchises which I still believe is the case; It's odd. Devil Survivor also has high school students, if anything it strikes me more as a cross between that and Final Fantasy X-2's juvenile J-pop shenanigans (given it is developed by that same team as Devil Survivor and not Hashino's P-studio).

I think what's most jarring about the crossover, currently, is the style.. and the over reliance on useless idol glorification that adds nothing to the game.

What I've seen of gameplay, however, looks really good. I think there's hope for this game yet.

Most people just tend to have had their experience colored by bad stuff. Similar to people who state all JRPG's suck due to FF13 or all FPS's suck due to COD.

Right until Atlus does the unthinkable and Persona 5 ends up being a bad game. Winter is Coming.. hopefully not.

The real reason I felt like actually contributing to the point that was being made in the video was to draw some thoughts into this seemingly schizophrenic mindset of gamers.

It seems to be related to a game's popularity meter. If it rises to a point where more than your third cousin knows about the game, and likes it, then it's deemed as overrated or generally just bad. If not a lot of people have heard about, it's generally overlooked by larger AAA competitors, then it's god's gift to man (say Fire Emblem pre-Awakening, Shin Megami Tensei, Nier, Lost Odyssey etc. just to pick some JRPG examples).

Like Yahtzee Croshaw once said "One should always support the independents, at least until they start earning the money the soulless sellout fucks!".

As soon as something becomes popular loads people give it a shot and some dislike it. That's just a fact of life.

Lol nah. They can have all the high school characters they want, this isn't anything like Devil Survivor right now. Not the second one anyway. Forget all that, this isn't like ANY Shin Megami Tensei or Persona game, unless you want to point out the obvious similarities with Dancing All Night but let us not talk about that BS. The completely tonal shift away from any SMT similarities with all the J-Pop nonsense makes its name being attached both pointless and hilarious. I heard there was some Jack Frost sign in the trailer so "Yay, references" I guess. That's enough, apparently. And the J-Pop Dual Love Attack of Idol Adoration: Form Five is a Fire Emblem Awakening reference. Why is this real life right now?

Yeah, my point was more or less in defense of the Persona games and not so much this crossover. It's weird, how anime clichés and stupid nonsense I'd expect from Square has to be shoved into any JRPG these days.

It's like Japan's way for CODifying their games. Developers in the west crank the pew pew nob up to 11 to reach more mainstream appeal, JRPGs throw in all the anime cliches you can think of to broaden their appeal.

pretty much. You want something to get popular? Go create otakuwank material for your game and watch them eat it all up. The anime industry ****** lives like that. Its all fanservice and ego handjobs, where the most relatable main character by their demographic is a weak-willed, unmotivated highschooler surrounded by female fantasy wives.

You know I noticed that even though Mikoto is confirmed as Avatar's biological mother, nothing is being said about the Avatar's biological father. The only person on the list is Garon. Theres a chance that even if you marry your supposedly non-blood related siblings on the Nohr Side, it might turn out later in the chapter that Garon is indeed your biological father as a big twist.

Leon's probably my favorite out of the little I've seen. Not sure what classes everyone occupies but he seems like a dark mage. Sans the similar artistic design to Awakening the actual design of the character, like their attire, seems pretty fresh. IS doesn't seem to be reusing too many assets outside of Not-Owain, Not-Severa, and Not-Inigo.

Leo (western name version, dunno why they dropped the N I mean cmon its only 1 letter) is confirmed as Dark Knight. No pony tho, or at least off the field.

That's only illuminatio's theory though with the way ancient European and Asian lords were it wouldn't shock me in the slightest.
