Everyone can be killed in Fire Emblem -- That is the series whole stick so I don't see how that should prevent them from at least bearing some relevance outside of the support conversations.

Nah, plot characters can't be killed, they're just "retired" from the battlefield and can't be used. It's often the case with the series so far. 

For example, Seth from Fire Emblem Sacred Stones said “Urgh... My apologies. I must withdraw". He wouldn't be able to used again since his HP reaches 0, but he's only retired from the battlefield, not killed, since you still need him for plot reasons. Lucina can't be killed either and she would just retreat "I-I can't die until we've seen this through to the end... Even if I cannot fight--even if I can do nothing. I want to stay with you... Forgive me, Father. I have to live...".

Seth has plot relevance? What does he do, stop Eirika from getting herself killed? It's been a minute since I played Sacred Stones.

He's the tactician of the game, she saved Eirika in the beginning, and the only one who knows about the secret of the bracelet that allow the twins to promote.

Not a fan of the easy way out. It's like why choose between the Geth and the Quarian when you could save them both?

Yeah. It's not fair that we have that whole Elise and Marx moment in Hoshido but in Nohr we don't have something equally horrible happen to Sakura.

The game is basically a paralogue level in Awakening where you have to choose between one side or the other or side with neither.
