On a side note, did they ever release the Amiibo adapter for the older models of the 3DS? I haven't payed any attention to that.
Its coming out at the end of September, along with that daft looking Animal Crossing spin off.

Not like the supports and story were ever expertly woven anyway. The sheer amount of supports of the most recent games throws a wrench into ever having any story connections when their main purpose is character development characters can't get in the story. Because they're not important enough to partake in it.

So there's at least some free DLC for Fates.
One of the maps centres around the vanilla characters from Awakening.
