Sorry if there is a thread on this already, but I could not find it.
I am playing a mage and have way too many skills for the skill bar.
Any way to work around this?
I have no room for all of my support/dmg/defense and potions.
Any help would be great.

PS3 was here with only 6 assignables.

on PC you can cast from the ring menu right? That's what we have to do.

On the PC you can grab the taskbar and pull it all the way to the right of your screen, opening several more slots.

The number of slots is display resolution-dependent. At 1680x1050, there are a lot of them, but not enough to slot everything. Maybe a 1920x1080 display can fit it all.

Might be worth looking at trying add new bars in an update down the road. The bars could stack or dock over/under the existing bottom row, or perhaps do some kind of funky slide-out from the sides. I say this with PC UIs in mind - consoles have separate restrictions on what they can fit on screen, but I don't want that to be the reason why a PC install can't utilize more screen real estate.

The maximum is resolution-dependent.

There have been several people here, though, who didn't know you could drag out the bar to make it longer.

Is it possible to mod it to make two rows? Off the top of my head I'd guess not, I seem to remember hearing something about the UI being pretty much unmoddable.

You can drag it out to make it longer? Woohoo, have to try that out with my mage when I get home.

On my PC I can stretch it out to 23-24 boxes. However, with poultices, kits and potions PLUS spell icons PLUS skill activations, my current Mage that is roughly 2/3 of the way through the game has exhausted _all_ of those.

I suspect that it will become necessary to use poultices, kits, and potions directly from Inventory. And if I amass more than 24 spells, some will have to be cast directly from the Spells/Talents sheet, and skills from the Skills sheet.

The console versions actually have 12 assignables, 6 hotkeys from weapon slot #1 and another 6 from weapon slot #2.  If you want to hotkey the weapon swap command then you only have 10 assignables as the weapon swap command reserves one assignable from each set of 6.  I really wish that the circle menu + button command would swap weapons and open up those hotkeys though.

It is surprising they didn't notice this during game testing. Mages run out of room by level 15ish. Other classes have so many passive skills it isn't an issue.

Personally, I prefer not to have alot of tabs in the way. I have not read anyone's posting here mention how easy it is to pause with the spacebar and use any item needed from inventory. Also you can cast straight from your spells tab.

Setting proper tactics on your other characters will save you from manually maintaining health or mana. It should be noted that tactics should be set to healing or mana before any other commands.

Thanks to those that mentioned the quickslot bar was draggable.

With 1920x1080 resolution I had enough quickslots for all my spells at level 24 with several to spare for potions.

I can't imagine not having the pc version due to lack of slots for skills. It's just so annoying to open up the menu to use pots or skills.

I'm so used to turn based RPGs I actually prefer pausing the game and opening up the dial menu to use pots and skills, lol.

Didn't know this.  DEFINITELY going to take advantage of it.

You can pull it from right hand side and you can also lock it from left hand side, it's handy to know too, I kept dragging spell icons in combat.

Why are you assuming they didn't notice?  Maybe it was a conscious choice on the devs' part in order to avoid the GUI from being too cluttered.

On my mage, I found myself short of space, even having stretched the hotbar out completely, so I pared down my spells to the ones I used the most and removed skills, and it worked pretty well for me.  If I had to use something that wasn't on the hotbar, well, it's good there's a pause feature!

They should have done the NWN2 multiple quickslot bars that you can cycle through and configure for different tasks. The draggable quickbar is okay but there are only keyboard maps for 1 through 0, it's a little annoying to have to use the mouse for ability 11.

Whether or not they chose to keep the screen uncluttered, it was a bad choice. There should of been an option at least to make a second bar appear for people who are not concerned with the clutter. The bar could simple vanish if the option was not ticked. Best for both worlds.

Edit: OR they could of just kept the NWN way where you could press control or shift for another bar to appear. Therefore more bars - same space on GUI.

You get LOTS more quickbar slots if you use standard resolution (say 1280x1024) with the "aspect ratio correction" option unchecked on a widescreen monitor. Not sure why this is. I was moving my PC around to different monitors and noticed this. Of course then everyone in the game looks like a short squat dwarf except for Sten. He just looks like a big metal wall...

I agree that the Devs should have at least given folks the option of another quick bar. Or two. Make it an option, enabled in options, and everyone is happy.

Also, the cyclical 1-10 quick bar is so common in other games that I don't see how they could have decided it wasn't necessary in this one. There are those who dislike mousing to cast spells/use abilities/etc, and those folks would really have liked being able to cycle through different quick bars for different scenarios.

While I'll grant that the melee classes don't really need that many slots, and thus the lack of additional QB's is rather negligible, the mage class can easily accrue enough frequently used clicky icons that it's rather negligent of them not to have options for more QB space other than dragging the one we have to stretch it out.

All that said, my HD5780 lets me run this game in 1920x1080 (all settings max) and thus with my QB dragged to full extension, there is no shortage of QB space for any of my casters.
