You know, might actually be neat to hold a flag or banner in the off-hand... Or atleast see some NPC's charge you with a war call & a flag in hand!  I'm guessing they'll always keep the off-hand reserved for the Pip-boy though.

But, but...How do i attack with a pip boy :(

Bring it on, I loved the last 2 Fallout games, not much of a fan of the classic Fallout(I find turn base RPGs dull). But they definetly need a new engine.

I didn't enjoy Fallout 3 at all. It felt more like a Oblivion sequel than Fallout successor. I hope Fallout 4 will be closer to 2nd instead of 3rd. More story, various characters saying different, personalized things, livelier locations, better combat.

I have heard NV is nothing like FO3 but a mix of same engine/same publisher/usual fanhype haven't persuaded me to try it yet.

tl;dr: This news leaves me cold, I look forward to play new IPs and KS projects.

This girl prefers the Pimp Boy 3 Billion. Bling bling!

The Bethesda vs. Obsidian argument is way beyond old. Both games are friggin good. I also respect the older games.

It is what it is.  Both companies have very different ways of doing things.

And for all we know, Chris Avallone could be working directly with Todd Howard on Fallout 4.

I highly doubt that. lol.  From what I've heard Obsidian & Bethesda aren't on the best of terms, and that shouldn't be a surprise to anybody by the way Bethesda operates.

I got a kick out of Three Dog. Mr. New Vegas was just bland - he didn't seem to have much of a viewpoint on anything that was happening.

Hell, it's what I loved about New Vegas. Each faction had their own set of flaws. Since the Courier didn't have to kill anyone, I made it a statement to allow him his wish of living forever.

Don't you have to kill the Brotherhood of Steel if you work for Mr. House???

Fallout 3 was the first Fallout game I have played, and I enjoyed it a lot. Hoping to pick up the Game of the Year Edition of that game later when I have the chance. It's really cheap now. ($20)

I rented Fallout New Vegas, and for some reason, I just couldn't get into that game. It's not a bad game, and I did play for quite a while, but it just didn't have the same feeling for me.

Hopefully, if Fallout 4 comes out, I can enjoy it as well.

It was $4.99 during the Steam winter sale a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, and in my opinion that was a mistake. I remember that initially Obsidian intended for the courier to be able to persuade Mr. House to leave the Brotherhood alone. I have no idea why they didn't put that in the game.

Sadly Obsidian often cuts out really nice things because of Time constraints.

Crippled, poisoned, radiated, winded ... are my Brotherhood fellows after fighting tens of Deathclaws, Baby Deathclaws and Radscorpions (In FO:T).
Life is too hard in Fallout world, doing a mission is mind blowing...
I needed to say that.

That's because Mr. New Vegas was a proper news reporter, he delivered news objectively. Three Dog was just a self-righteous twit used by the developers as a tool to stroke the player's ego. You're either the reincarnation of Jesus or the personnification of the devil to him, either way he's constantly trying to make you feel important, even when he shouldn't actually know who is actually responsible for what.

So what?  He was more fun and had more personality.

Meh. Bethesda's take on Fallout was a mess...

Now if Obsidian announces that they're making another game in the Fallout universe, I will be interested.

FNV was an unfinished mess with a predictable story.

I don't know about the story being predictable or not but the characters and factions were 100% more interesting than anything if Fallout 3. None of them were without flaws unlike the FO3 brotherhood which is a completely benevolent faction and Enclave which in turn is completely evil.

True. I will give Fallout New Vegas credit where it's due but as with most Obsidian games this one felt rushed.

Bah.... the excitement for fallout 4 is greatly soured by the Skyrim and Fallout NV. Both horrible ports and buggy messes on the PS3. I don't want to start a flame war or anything, because both the 360 and PS3 work great, even if I prefer a PS3. But both Bethesda and Obsidian dropped the ball when they made their respective sandbox games. I couldn't even finish Fallout NV it was so buggy....
Which is a shame, because I was really enjoying it. I tried picking up the GOTY edition figuring that they'd have fixed everything, and to my major dissapointment, it was worse. And Bethesda blew their own leg off with a shotgun when it comes to Skyrim on PS3. I mean, jeez guys? You had the PS3 for 6 years and you still can't program for it? WTH?
I've lost all respect I had for both companies.

It seems very unlikely that I'll be getting this game, unless I pick it up from a bargin bin for under $5
Hopefully Bethesda can prove me wrong and learn from this debacle, but I doubt it.

Yeah...no.

Ah yes...the short response of "no" because you can't think of anything to counter my argument. You could mention things like the factions, ads, or the sidequests but instead you chose to write a laughable response. As for what I mentioned, FNV felt rushed as with most Obsidian games but still a good(perhaps great) game in it's own right.

Bethesda games are always terrible on PS3. I can't understand how we are still in this situation late in the consoles cycle. This also goes to games like RDR,Bayonetta, and CoD which are all awful on PS3.

I am so happy about the news, but I don't want Fallout 4 to be next-gen. It will take a lot of time before I buy any next-gen console because I don't want to risk buying newer versions of consoles after experiencing what happened to the first Xbox 360s and because of money problems.

Please, make it for the current gen :)

I'd guess this is next to impossible.  To believe the rumors, we're less than a year out on new consoles, leaving not enough time to do a game like this.  Plus, next gen would be great with a Fallout 4 launch.

The problem was that the PS3 has only 256MB RAM, which turned out to be a significant hurdle for big open world sandbox RPGs with lots of persistent data, like Skyrim and New Vegas. Fortunately, the PS4 will reportedly have much more RAM, so this should not be an issue for Fallout 4.

Well, the Mojave is a bit calmer than the Capital Wasteland. There are still some strange things going on, and an NCR/Legion battle brewing, but people seem a little more free in choosing how to spend their lives and gather enough resources to survive. In the Capital Wasteland, it would take someone who's either an idealist or a little nuts to want to spend his/her time doing news broadcasts, and someone like that is going to have strong opinions. Also, Three Dog does have a line to Lyons' Brotherhood of Steel faction, who are likely to have their ears to the ground about what's going on in the Wasteland and probably feed him information, since they have similar goals.

I would not say that Three Dog had more personality, one was a loudmouthed idealist and the other a laid back womanizer, they're about the same in level of personality. Also "fun" is subjective, I didn't find Three Dog fun, I found him irritating.

Again I didn't really care for either DJ, but between the two Mr. New Vegas got on my nerves significantly less, so I like him slightly more. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

The Brotherhood of Steel do not imply that they know anything about the protagonist's exploits, which makes sense seeing as how they rarely seem to leave the Citadel. How Three Dog knows that the protagonist is responsible for all of these feats is never elaborated on or even implied, he simply knows.

So should we expect the Fallout series to suffer a massive case of streamlining after the success of Skyrim? Skyrim was really, really successful. What's stopping Bethesda from removing skills altogether and leaving only main attributes in place because they find spending skill points makes the gameplay mechanics redundant or some such nonsense?

Will they even take anything from New Vegas? I'd rather not be stuck with the silly karma system from Fallout 3.

Three Dog made that atmosphere for me, I couldn't imagine playing that game with the radio off. However, I still liked New Vegas better.
