Ha! I see I've become synonymous with BioWare, have I? Clearly I am responsible for everything BioWare decides to do. :)

Rather telling, to be honest. I do enjoy the "excessive pandering to minorities" comment-- because giving content to anyone that isn't part of the majority is clearly bad and unworthy. Pandering to the interests of a small group of hardcore elitist homophobes, however? SO much better.

At any rate, I wasn't aware that Numenara was intending to include romances of any kind or was considering having a more linear story. News to me. As for the idea of me joining the project... much as I'd enjoy such a challenge, I had no idea that was on the table to the point they needed a poll to declare me unworthy.

But whatever. I didn't think the interview was impolite-- one can respectfully say they believe our games aren't interactive enough and I don't think anyone here is going to be offended by that. We can respectfully disagree, after all. I don't know why fans feel the burning need to imagine developers are at each other's throats. Like I said earlier, I look forward to seeing what the Numenara team comes up with. Should be very different and cool, and I imagine the developers don't need the kind of "guidance" that poll is offering to make it amazing.

For someone who proposes intellect; his mannerism is contradictory.

As for this hate... I think this stems from DA2, unless BioWare hate was common even before that. Well, seeing as how some in RPG codex bash BG2, I won't be surprised if there was.

http://rpgcodex.net/...-results.80194/
The people who bash BG2 are an extreme minority even on Codex. After all P:E promished to be kind of BG3 and the Codex in general loved it.
The hate is for the Bioware romances in general, even in BG2. But in BG2 was a minor part of the game, so people didn't found it offensive, or even liked it. But  as of DA:O and beyond romances have become a major selling point in Bioware games. Some people really can't stand them. Combine that with the depart of the clasic RPG roots that happened around COTOR and the "old school" market kind of dismissed  Bioware games.

But it's not only the Codex. Even new audiences like The Witcher or Obsidian fans kind of dislike the whole romance idea in the Bioware games.
It's the think that makes Bioware stands out among other companies. Some people really like them, some others find them silly, disgusting or worse.

I still find it all hypocritical, especially considering PST and TW have very cool romances. But I suppose people have their reasons. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

I wonder if it's possible to have too much coolness in too small a space.  Can the world even handle this?

The only real concern would be a level of "too many cooks in the kitchen" but it's not really a concern I have.

Moderator Allan follow up:

Deleted some posts because they were misconstruing David's comment to vent beefs about DA2 which David's comment has nothing to do with.

Ehhh... I've only read The Name of the Wind and couldn't finish it due to all the characters being... sueish. I'm cautious about this.

And to give Colin some credit: https://twitter.com/...746353123627009

Note: when meaning to say, "a cinematic experience" prob best not to say, "just an interactive movie with player-controllable combat." Ahem.

That's good to see. Wasn't trying to be a bomb thrower.

I'm excited for the 3.25 stretch goal of having Pat Rothfuss join the team. Enjoyed his books. Might have to bump up my contribution. (Which I guess is the point )

Rothfuss is excessively well received and respected.  I'm sure your reservations are of concern to...

to...

yourself.

---

I've not even read his books, but I have met him on a couple occassions and I follow his blog and he's a friend of a friend, so... I'm excited by this.

Well yeah, most people are pretty hypocritical.

Look at TW2, essentially it is an action-adventure game that has choices with consequences and an excellent story, but it gets praised as the best RPG EVAR by people who love ****ing about whether a game is really an RPG or not.

Personally, romances are a non-factor to me when deciding to play a game. They are just one type of character relationship that some people seem obssesed with one way or the other.

Romances aren't quite a non-factor for me, I enjoy them in games, but they are nowhere near a deciding factor.  But you are absolutely right about the hypocrisy.

The people who hate romances and demand none are just as overbearing as those demanding romances.  It'sthe same "my way, my opinion, or ELSE!" nonsense.

If the developers want to include them or not, that's their concern.  If they want to solicit supporters opinions, that is also their choice.

Many Kickstarter game campaigns not only accept opinions of their communities, they solicit it.  Some even put that forth as a selling point.  But even those games have developers who already have a starting concept and you supporting the game means you are backing the majority of the pitch and should accept that, solicited opinions or no.

That David Gaider thing... some people are just jerks.  I'll be happy to see Torment not follow the seeming current BioWare model (or, at least, to be fair, my perception of what that model is) but that's not intended as a dig at BioWare.  I just prefer many game aspects that BioWare isn't offering currently, and some of those Torment is.

Not as many as, say, Wasteland 2 or Project Eternity are, though.  I'm interested in Torment (more so with Mitsoda and Rothfuss being added, sure) but it's nowhere near the pinnacle of my anticipation.

Heck, I've said recently (and I still stand by it) that I enjoyed PS:T about as much as I enjoyed DA2.  Different kinds of enjoyment, and for very different reasons, but it could be argued that I enjoyed DA2 MORE than PS:T as I doubt I'll play that again but I did play DA2 three times.

Anywho... I think you are right.  The hypocrisy, the overreaction (either end) to the inclusion of romance, is pretty sickening.

One of my favorite parts of the game quite honestly. And anything else involving Annah. (Including her St. Patrick's Day outfit.)

Agreed. The romance was well done. Her stand against the big bad at the end really felt from the heart.

Gaiderism has become an umbrella title for anything Bioware related. But in truth, Gaider is the only person in Bioware that some of the "old school" audience still respect a little for BG2 and his Ascension mod.
I have seen comments from people that wish Bioware collapses, and the same people in the next comment are saying that if Gaider (without any other Bioware writter) promished to make a BG3 kickstarter they would donate. People are strange like that.
