Dark Channel doesn't prompt a Praetorian shield - a flying Praetorian or otherwise - if it jumps from a nearby dead enemy.
If you need to missile NOW, and don't have time to wait for the animation, you can pop into cover, pop back out, and you will have the missile ready.
