Will only be getting this one if it serves some reading for the "hard core" fans, like myself who already basically know everything about DA (from games, books, etc I mean).

And IIRC, David Gaider said there will be another cover for the book.

From some earlier dev comments and an excerpt about Theodosian holidays posted on the BSN, it does seem to have loads of stuff that they've never revealed publicly before. I don't know whether it'll be earth-shakingly important in terms of outstanding questions and theories about big characters and the lore, but it's still a really interesting insight.

(and I'm just interested to see more of the world, it's fascinating that Gaider et al have written entire histories, locations and factions that players will likely never see in much detail - I'm impressed by that attention to world-building.)

Honestly, I want it just to serve as a primer for my own worldbuilding. Hoping it will give me some ideas on how to naturally expand the world without forcing myself to write a ton of stories that might never be related to anything.

My thought is that it's stuff that's been culled from the wiki and edited into readable form by Ben.

We know they have an internal wiki that's basically a brood mother encyclopedia (it may have started out slender as David added places and names and short ideas, but it's become bulbous and bloated as the team have added and expanded where needed).

I do agree that the world is fascinating, and I'm very much looking forward to picking up the book, though I won't be reading it until I get my latest playthrough of Origins and DA2 out of the way (I don't want to have the conversations and codex diluted by a bunch of new information that they didn't intend to reveal during those games).

You could look at it another way. All the info you glean from reading the book could add a lot of context to things that didn't always make sense before. I'd think it would be a world-enhancer. It would help with immersion if you know more about the world than simply what's told directly to you as a player.

Hope they'll do Morrigan with the hood up if she returns.

The holidays were in the prima strategy guide for DAO. It wasn't that new.

Wow, I'm absolutely buying it just to look at the pretty pictures. The Flemeth in the background is just amazing, I love her expression and her eyes.........and well just everything about her really!

NewThedas information will be a very welcome bonus though.  :D

Spewing hot jets of flame all over the place doesn't seem terribly wise when you're twirling around with a cape. Seems like an accident waiting to happen.

I'm guessing that's Morrigan's redesign going forward. I was kind of hoping they'd give her a totally new outfit, not just recolor her robes red, put her hood up and give her a cape.

"Redesign"? It's the same outfit she wore in DAO concept art, with a cape.

I'm not sure I will purchase this product, but I do like the art and designs that are used. I don't know if it was intended, but a lot of the art, border designs and fonts remind me nostalgically of some of the old Advanced Dungeon and Dragons hardback players guides and module layouts for the pen n paper game.

In fact, I had never heard of this product before, at first glance when I saw the cover art, my first thought was Bioware was releasing a pen and paper ruleset to tide of over until DA3 was released.

But they have tweaked it a little- her robes are red, not purple as they were in Origins. She has that cape thing going on which looks pretty bulky. And it looks like she doesn't have her black glove / arm band on her right arm. Little things, but they'd still be changes from her Origins design.

Anyway, looking at the glossary pages there I'm now confused about the Darkspawn. Under ghoul it says that they're only "a human male corrupted by the effects of the blight." I thought ghouls were just any creature infected by the blight that didn't die?

There already is a pen and paper Dragon Age game.

The robe was red in the DAO concept art.

She is almost identical to the one in the middle.

Most of the concept art had her with a more magenta/purple colored robe. The art book cover is a much brighter red. Especially if you were comparing to her in game robe:

Yea... and "hot jets of flame spewing all over the place" would tend to give off an orange glow and affect the color of their surroundings. You know, like how the frill of her cape is glowing and her face has an orange hue. And oh my god she might not be wearing a glove on her right hand, ruined forever.

And don't tell me you wouldn't be complaining just as much if she was "completely redesigned," Brock. Don't even.

Yeah, it is a bit redder, but that is pretty much the only thing they've changed. Methinks they're gonna keep her looking almost exactly the same in any iteration. Her being distinct as compared to the other companions is one of the main reasons used when devs were talking about iconic looks for companions. It wouldn't make much sense to then redesign her.
