what if instead of the next DLC, they paid homage to the late 90s and early 2000s by bringing us....

An Actual Expansion?

I know most developers go the "DLC route" nowadays because its cheaper, quicker, and they can usually make more of a profit.

But I think it would be awesome if they gave us a full, indepth, expansion.

Opinions?

Would love.

I think it's what ME3 needs.

Won't happen.

I was thinking this as well - At least it wouldn't limit them to 2gig. They have done an expansion with Dragon Age Origins before (Awakening). So I wouldn't totally rule out the chances... even if they are very slim.

If the expansion is given online, it still technically is a DLC :)

Shivering Isles is given online, and it's a full-blown expansion.

Tons of games could do with expansions. I'd love one for Mass Effect in general.

Agreed, that would be a huge surprise coming from Bioware - but makes sense that they won't say much about endings and the conclusion of ME3 because they are expanding on it to show you that they did have more in mind to reveal, but did not want to hint at it.

Ah...I won't get my hopes up, though...I'm just going to be indifferent until the DLC's out. (Or expansion!)

They should do episodes instead.

Dragon Age was in development for a heck of a long time... old school paradigm, so to speak, so it essentially was a game from the early 2000s.  And, as evidence, consider the cancelled expansion to DAII....

So, while I have no insider knowledge, I would say an expansion is unlikely, especially since ME4 (or whatever it will be called) is reportedly already in the works.  I think the best we can hope for is a well-done DLC.  If it is on the Citdel, as rumored, then perhaps they can squeeze in more story by (I hate to suggest this, but...) reusing the existing in-game Citadel assets.

That said, in this day and age, the 2gig cap imposed by platform distributors is a bit silly, IMO.  Perhaps EA/BioWare could use this as a case to push that limit upwards... something that's not as labor intensive as an expansion (which traditionally adds new mechanics to a game) but more extensive than what we've come to expect from a vanilla DLC.

I like that concept, and while I haven't played any episodic single-player games, I think it holds promise.  However, I don't know how you'd (narratively-speaking) squeeze a bunch of episodes into the existing ME3 story... unless you were playing someone other than Shep on some other front of the war....

Though unlikely, I still think that it would fit as a final push for fans and money as the game comes towards it's first year anniversary to release something big like an expansion pack of some sort. I do like your suggestion for a push up on the limit for DLC's though.

The Walking Dead episodes followed the protagonist pretty closely and the overall story was one of the better of 2012 in my opinion.

It's all about working up that tension and making the player want to come back for more.

I think its been said "why make an expansion for $50 when you can take that same expansion and chop it up into 10 seperate dlcs. Each one selling for $10-15".

On disc expansion packs are not worth the investment anymore considering that people are willing to pay so much for so little in terms of content.

It comes with a new "hub" area separated from the mainland, a new house, new weapons/armor, and interconnectivity to Skyrim through sub-quests---and you can go to and from Solstheim whenever you please.  It's only a minor step down from Shivering Isles.

It's an expansion, though I suppose you could consider Dawnguard a mini-expansion instead of DLC by those parameters.

Thanks RaenImrahl for your input. I always thought a Expansion had some merit even after finishing the "ending"even back on March 14. It may be expensive but better to spend say extra 10 million to protect another future hundreds of million if the mass effect brand does become a movie and such it must satisfy it core base depends if EA is willing to take the fiscal risk which should pay off not only in the Expansion but the raise of other ME DLCs people will buy. There will be some people(some of the same who were doing a lot of the hateful language, threats and such)will never be satisfied no matter what gesture of kindness is done to make up for the ending but more is need. If i was to do one, there's No better time to plan a Expansion then at the end of a trilogy for a number of reasons but again the strains on manpower ,time and money would be vast but it would be memorable to end this cliffhanger "theory"or not.

Citadel will not be the last,we must wait till the Spring, long time for a Dlc when you have 2 studios at your disposal huh. 25% chance. : (
