It works fine for Windows 7 x64, and it's supposed to work fine in Vista x64, too. Where do you get the idea that it doesn't work in Vista x64? I've never had an issue playing anything in Vista x64 since it's release in 2007, and I've had no problems with W7 since it's release either.

I'm running Vista 64 too. It's blue screened me a few times in about 200 hours of playtime. I think it has more to do with the 6 mismatched hard drives than the game itself.

Compared to the old 8400M G, the 9200M GS has a higher core speed and
is therefore faster. Modern DirectX 10 games will run only in low
details and resolutions. Older DirectX 9 games, like HalfLife 2 or Far
Cry run fluently in medium to high details.

I wouldn't expect too much from it.

My laptop has an ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 in it, which is considered a "class 2" component versus your "class 3" one, and mine has a little trouble with World of Warcraft if I try to bump up past medium settings.  I'll have to try DA:O on it to see how that runs, but keep in mind that my laptop's 3DMark05 score averages 8577 while yours would be in the 3495 range.

If DA:O will run at all on your laptop, I would not expect much from it.

i was just wondering the same thing...
i have pretty much the same
specs as TheTyger exept my nVidia 9200m GS is 512MB and i have a Core 2 Duo 2GHz..
i play DA:O
pretty smoothly with no probs... the only thing is i cant max out the
detailes or it will slow down or start lagging, my friend has a laptop
with ATI GPU and the game runs with all the graphics maxed even
smoother than my "medium" settings.. so maybe EJ42 is right in his
post...
so i guess we're doomed to "slow playing"... or is there some magic way to get around???

full specs in case of need:

HP Pavillion dv7
2GHz Core 2 Duo
512MB nVidia 9200M GS
4MB RAM

Maybe he got a similar e-mail from EA Tech Support that I got today:

"I apologize for the inconvenience caused. I have checked the
system information provided by you. I would like to inform you that the
game is not compatible with the 64 bit operating system. The game may
run but the performance is not guaranteed. It is not recommended to run
the game on 64 bit. I would suggest you to please try running the game
on a 32 bit machine.

Are you crashing to desktop qute a bit?  I have to save every few minutes essentially, as I crash so often.  I am also using Vista 64 and have nVidia 280M cards in my laptop.  Wonder if that might be the issue.

That EA support email is a stock answer that basically says "Go away, we can't be bothered looking at what the actual problem is".

The game works fine for me on Windows 7 64bit.

It does not say anywhere in the specs that you need a 32 bit OS to run the game.

I got the same email as qalan from EA, after about 2 weeks of emails back and forth. They just gave up on trying to help me. $50 down the drain.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-Bit SP2. You don't mention if you have SP2. If you do are all of your updates complete. If you don't have SP2, get it, it will fix a slew of problems. I've played through DAO 4 times completely without a single crash. I am in DAOA with 1.03 and not having issues either.

Good Luck!

Hope my kidding?

To be clear, the game is not "written for" 64-bit operating systems in that it is not a native 64-bit application. However, it runs fine on a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system (whether it is Vista or Windows 7). Time for you to panic about something else.

It works fine. EA's tech support claims the game is not supported on 64-bit operating systems, which is a disgustingly offensive ruse to close support queries as soon as possible rather than actually helping people.

Don't tolerate being treated like a ****ing idiot by EA or BioWare - refuse to give them your money.

Doesn't matter if the game runs better using a 32-bit OS or a 64-bit OS. No where on the back of the game's box does it say:

"Only run the game on a 32-bit OS!!! This game is not meant to be run on a 64-bit OS!!!"

It says "Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.

It's either false advertising so they can make more bucks, or the programmers didn't know what the flip they were doing.

Right.

They asked me to try a few things. Then when they didn't work they just replied:

"This game isn't supported on a 64-bit OS" and quit trying to help.

*sigh*

What do they care. They got my $50
