Male/Femshep, it varies.

I consider my canon playthroughs as fem.

Femshep and female, because I rarely get to play as a female.

Male. Male Shepard only. There are 3 reasons: I never cared for Jennifer Hales voice, I enjoy hearing someone that doesn't do loads of voice work (Mark got better and better), and male Shepard has a unique look (unlike female Shepard).

Male. Generally male protags. With heavy weapons. Heavy armour. Big muscles.

No, I am not compensating for anything.

Female and mainly FemShep. If there is a good story related reason for me to play male then I play male but otherwise, nope.

Every Shepard can have a unique look. That´s why there´s such a thing as customization:)

I'm male, and in ME I play a maleShep.

However, in most other games I play a female character when the option is given to me.

Male myself, used to play maleShep until some two years ago. Then gave femShep a try and haven't switched back since. Now I can't help but think of Shepard as anything but female.

And in other games that give you the choice, I usually mix it up; if I do multiple playthroughs of a game I'll almost certainly play both sexes.

Female, technically, but identify as queer and genderfluid, prefer male identity online and typically let people assume male unless I am directly asked.

I usually play males, as I identify with them more. I can't get into a woman's head, I don't "get" typical female preferences, like clothes and make up and so on, pretty much opposite stereotypical female expectations.

Male avatars are much more comfortable to me, with the additional benefit that I also find them much more aesthetically pleasing as well. Tend to go for samesex romances given the option (male/male with Zevran in DAO, male/male with Fenris in DA2). If Thane or Garrus were romancable by males, I wouldn't have a female Shepard at all. I find it really difficult to identify with her, it's really hard to disconnect my "canon" Shepard from her playthrough even though their personalities are totally different (male green eyed/redhead sentinel, paragon, saves everyone, polite and friendly, versus female blue eyed/brunette infiltrator, renegade, generally rude and volitile, a bit vicious- I like her, but I still don't identify with her at all, can't help thinking at every dialogue junction what Saemus would do instead of what Tanner actually does).

Feels like I'm cheating on male Shepard, tell the truth /eyeroll

I'm female, and my main Shepard is male for two reasons:

1) Sheploo.
2) Mark Meer.

Yes, I like his voice acting. Yes, I like the default maleShep. Get over it.

I like Mark Meer's voice acting as well. Don't like Sheploo so much, but I definitely prefer his voice.

Female gamer here and so far I have only played female characters in all my BioWare games. Every now and then I try playing a male character... but I just don't connect to them as well.

Ha ha, so envious of those who have fun playing both male and female characters =) you get to see more things in the games.

Ohh... and Jennifer Hale   <3<3  she is wonderful

Male. I felt this game series has more comedic potential with Shepard as a female having Ms. Hale's voice and timing.

-------
FemShep: "I just killed like '50' body bodyguards to get in here. What are you two gonna' do?..."
Dude: "Uhh..."

-------
FemShep: *arms up, flailing* "I'm gonna blow this pace to Hell-and-gone!!..."
Rana Thanoptis: "OH NO!!! I better-!!"
FemShep: "RUN!!!"

-------
FemShep: "Well, if it isn't 'The Vanguard of Our Destruction!' How's that workin' out for ya', Big Guy?"

-------
FemShep: "Did you just say what I think you said?"
EDI: "...No..."

--------
FemShep: "Conrad, if you have some kind of shrine to me-"
Conrad: "It's just a poster and some candles. It's very tasteful."
FemShep: "GAH!!!"

^^this

Same here.

I'm a male and I play as female in any game that allows for the choice. Maybe because its better to look at a female (from a male perspective) for thirty hours than a male. Or maybe because there is a dearth of well-made asskicking female characters in videogames. Or because maybe its pure beauty seeing a sexy female kick ass left right and centre. :D  Anyway, I prefer females to males and have absolutely no problem relating to anyone just because they don't share my gender.

Male. I tend to play Male Shepard.

I also enjoy playing as FemShep (I like tough women) but prefer Male.
