I am a female and I have only played female Shepards. I'll play males in MP, though.

My Sheps are evenly split between male and female. My "canon" Shep, to the extent I have one, is a female who romanced Liara, but I only went with her as my primary because I discovered I liked playing an Infiltrator best.

 I'm a bisexual male, the olny diference I see between the Sheps are the romances available for each one so I play both.

I say the olny thing I wish for is for team dextro have S/S romances (Yea, Garrus too, he is so awkwardly hot <3)

This is a fun and interesting post.

Female player, play FemShep only, and have only romanced male characters (Kaidan/Thane).

I did an interesting analysis of this on the Romance DLC  blog about 3-4 weeks ago.   We had to use indirect evidence, and therefore had to omit Liara and Kaidan, since they "muddied the waters" but the results were still pretty interesting....

During one trilogy playthrough I:

Banged Shaiira
Flirted with Ashley
Banged Liara
Banged Kelly
Romanced Miranda & Tali (have to be tricky with this one not to get the "choose between us" option)
Renagade banged Jack while romancing both Miranda and Tali
Banged Miranda before SM (I think it's because romanced her first that things weren't concrete between my Shep and Tali)
Broke up with Miranda and banged Tali after SM
Flirted with Cortez on the dance floor
Banged Diana Allers
Romanced Kaidan

I hope all STDs are cured in the future.

I'm female, and most of my Shepards are female. Mostly it's because I identify with Shepard more when she's female, and it's like being able to go an adventure myself through her eyes. I do have some male Sheps, but when I make a male Shep it's more for eye candy.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but I find that while most males play MShep, some play FemShep.
On the other hand, I actually have yet to see a female NOT play FemShep.

I'm female and only play female in Mass Effect.

It depends what the game is to what gender I play. In most cases I play female just because I can but there are other factors too.

If the game has s/s romance like Mass Effect, I always go female. If it only has straight romance, I would go male. If it has no romances at all then it depends which gender has the better character creator. If females don't have any good hair styles and whatnot, I play male.

I actually said I am a female who prefers male shep. I play male characters, much prefer them, because I can better role play and enjoy male characters.

The saddest thing though about my love for FemShep is that it came around like this.

First time playing: 'Wait why am I selecting between Male and Female. Um no thanks I'll pass on the female.' (Please keep in mind I barely knew anything about Mass Effect at the time).

After first playthrough with Male Shep: "WHOA NOT ONLY CAN I ROMANCE THAT BLUE CHICK BUT I CAN DO IT PLAYING AS A FEMALE SHEPARD! OMGWTFBBQEPICWIN!11!!!"

Eventually I came to love playing as FemShep for all the right reasons....okay reason (Hales performance) but my whole reason for even trying was not so elegant. Though I will say making Traynor a romance option was a great incentive for players on Biowares part to get them to give FemShep a try. If only they could make Tali, Miranda, and Ash as options for FemShep.

My personal preference isn't necessary.
