If you click on an option to kill him. Then select

1. I can't do it

Allister steps in and kills him, I sadly found out that I was trying to wed Anora, she replied nastily "I will not wed, the murder of my father" though in truth, that's how a normal person should react. Marrying Anora, can only be on the Noble quest.

Tis strange how people react to you so differently if you are a noble, and you are a mage/ elf. For example that one guy that said he give a reward for a flower and then when you went to collect if not a noble he says "You must been mistaken"

Allister is an alright funny guy. I was really surprised being a Half Brother of the King and a Grey Warden, he did not get any sexual things. A grown man being a virgin but suppose His templar background gave the reason for this.

I really would like one of the female companions back as against to Allister, just my thought

Hey Josh - you can fix the "virgin" bit if you play through as a female character.  Just sayin'.  :)

Thanks for the suggestion but I think I will stick to my playing my male PCs :)

You can fix it as a male, too. Just his options might not be as nice/friendly/warm/caring as a PC :|

Well, you can help with everything but the virgin thing. ;)

Actually, if you're playing it on PC... there's an app for that ;)

He also mentions that there have been very few female wardens. I got the impression that none of the wardens he got to know after becoming a warden were female.

Or maybe the lady-wardens in question were just disgustingly ugly. Alistair's not really desperate to bed a woman, is he?

Well, you can get him into a situation where he and a girl both have no pants on. You don't have to be much more direct than that >.>

(Of course, it might be kinder just to leave him a virgin.)

Can't a man play pillow fights in his undies with a gal without being judged on?

Well, from such an upstanding member of society as you, I would expect no such thing.

But Alastair is a downright scoundrel, I mean, just look at his gene pool.

For the whole Alistair is a virgin thing it really is understandable. He was sent to the Chantry when he was a child where they trained him as a templar. Not a whole lot of opportunity there. Then before he becomes a full templar he gets recruited into the Grey Wardens. Now not saying the wardens are a celibate bunch but as focused on duty as they are I doubt they go around just looking for chicks (or guys) to sleep with. And then with Alistair's personality ... he really wants to be emotionally involved and not just sleep with her just because.

He also mentions that there have been very few female wardens. I got the impression that none of the wardens he got to know after becoming a warden were female.

He does mention that. and he also states that he is a gentleman. So he'd never just hop in the sack for the sake of sleeping with a girl. I think he even mentions getting compliments from girls in Denerim but I have a feeling those were from The Pearl lol

When he says he's a gentleman, he basically asks if that's what you want, so I guess he's persuadable to be otherwise. ;) Not where my PC is likely to go however....

My overall impression was that Alistair, like his brother, has a naieve childlike personality. Playing as female human noble, he seemed shy at first but once hardened he actually made the first move in terms of sex. So I think he's just a child at heart and lack of experience with women makes a guy less "inclined" to initiate romance, flirting, etc.

Same here.... Actually, during my first playthough (nobleman dwarf) my nickname for him was "stupid" or "whiny" but when I played the female human noble, I realized there was much more to his personality. First time I went through, I got very teary-eyed and yelled at my husband to take notes :P

Isn't Arl Eamon King Calin's uncle? Making him Alistair's uncle also?

I think the real reason people end up having so heated debates about Alistair is because ultimately it's so very much up to the player to shape who he is. With someone to guide him past the situations where he can fail spectacularly, tiptoe around his sensitive spots and a pass few words to help him shape up after Goldanna he can turn into a decent King to temper Anora (who will do most of the actual ruling) or maybe a nice partner to a PC (who again will do most of the actual ruling) and all the nice warm and funny parts of his personality can really shine. Happy ever aftering and all that.

On the other hand, people can roleplay very reasonably, not being set out to play evil or anything, and can time and again stumble on his character flaws that can make him fail both personally (because he really can't take a joke, unless he's the one saying it) or as a Grey Warden (the infamous tantrum). You can simply see so very different things in him, depending on how you play it. Since most of us will always have the images of our very first playthrough stuck in our hearts most, it's whatever happens then that shapes our feelings to a large extent. It takes a lot of time to come to terms with the other parts, especially as the game is so damnably good at delivering deep emotional impact.

No. Arl Eamon is brother to King Cailen's mother Rowan. Alistair had the same father, but different mother as Cailen.

<Golf Clap> Well Said! It was very difficult for me to see past his.... short-comings originally. But I've played through the game (more times than I would really like to admit) and I have to say that he is one of the most interesting characters. Back to day-dreaming

Yeah. That happened to me too, allthough it's even worse when you do as I did and marry Anora yourself, then he just becomes a sad dropout. I felt guilty as hell, even if I, roleplaying it, felt I had done the right thing. took me a long time to be able to get past his tantrum that first game.

He'll make the first move if you don't change his personality, too. The option for the PC to proposition him just appears a while before he's ready to do so.

Alistair infuriated me my first play through. He was fine up until the landsmeet as my love, but as I was an elf woman, he would not let me be his queen, and further...he dumped me over duty. He didn't consider that as king he could perhaps flex the rules or whatnot. And as I didn't harden him (because I liked him sweet) he turned out to be a dutymonger that could dump my character just because they weren't wed and due to their DUTY couldn't perhaps beget an heir. That was the biggest letdown. I would have expected him to at least have kept my character as a mistress if nothing else, but he made a choice to end it. A choice. And he was KING. I can understand him not wanting an elf as a wife, that the Landsmeet would balk at it, but I was infuriated that he could dump me like that. That he could make that kind of choice. Duty is one thing, and I understood that, but ...abandoning a relationship when it was not necessary to do so, for the sake of appearances or whatnot? It...made it very difficult for me not to have him go off and kill the Archdemon and sacrifice himself. Very difficult. Sadly though I held out hope until the bitter end that he would change his mind. Nope. Nada. So long and thanks for all the fish, nevermind that I'm the one that carried his arse the whole way because he was too naive and uncertain to handle things himself. Thanks Alistair.

As for the thread title; Alistair is a heartbreaker unless you're a noble female OR have hardened him. He can love the other races but just can't bring himself to marry them. Cute. Uses the excuse for not being able to have children with another Gray Warden then (though funny how it doesn't matter as much if you're a noble female hmmm?...not that I'm bitter or angry or anything. Harumph!)

Alistair still dumped Elissa even though she was a human noble because since they were both wardens they coudn't (or would be extremely, extremely hard) make babies. :\\ This pissed me off so bad I reloaded. All the way back to the Alienage. I made Anora Queen. Do I have something wrong with me? (he wasn't hardened and I hadn't er... de-virgined him so this may be why)

But this was on the xbox, I aim to do things better on the PC playthrough. I mean, who can resist her? <------
