I really need help with this, but the support both here and on EA is atrocious... Why can't I post in the Mass Effect support-forum?

So I've read pretty much every other thread about this, and they all say the same things. Examples of keys that should work, contact EA support, etc... They keys listed do not work for me, and EA seems determined to make sure you can't contact them about it.

People have suggested their live chat support; which apparently isn't available for Mass Effect, at least I get no option whatsoever about it, only e-mail. And I can't e-mail either, because... you have to pick categories. None of which fit.
Tech support? Requires an error code, and there is none. General Questions? Seems to be only about public concerns about the company... And knowing EA support from the past I'm certain they'll ignore anything sent with the "wrong" category.

Since "contact EA" seems to be the only viable option, I simply wish to know either of these things: Which category to use when mailing them, any other more direct means of contacting them (unlikely), or, failing both of these... is this DLC worth the trouble? x|

You can't post in the support forums because they're shut. No idea why, they just closed them all down 2-3 months ago and said all player-player support was to be done at AnswersHQ now. Official support was never here anyway, just players trying to help each other, and of course fixing code problems to allow DLC registration isn't something one player could ever help another with.

Live Chat does indeed seem to have been removed for ME1, which personally I feel is a dick move on their part when only a year ago you didn't need to contact them at all to make this DLC work. Maybe there's a phone option but without even knowing what country you're in I can't even guess at the chances. Doesn't seem to be one for Australia and that's about all I can tell you. Email seems to be it and I'd suggest the Account/Registration as the category.

As to whether it's worth it, I think it's a great piece of DLC with effects that are felt in 2 & 3 (more so in 3, just b/g chatter in 2 but it's nice referencing). But then I was lucky enough to get it just before they made life difficult for everyone.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Oh, I thought it was some sort of block until you fulfill requirements... It felt odd to, as a new user, be able to post everywhere except the place where you're supposed to ask for help. :| And AnswersHQ claims I am banned from visiting... odd, as I've never even heard of it before today.

And yes, account/registration seems to work... no requirement for non-suitable categories! Let's hope it pays off.

I'll take your word... it really does seem to be a great DLC. I'll keep trying then... But I have to say I never thought I'd have to battle bureaucracy to get a game working. :|

Thanks for the reply though. If nothing else, at least it renewed my spirit to trudge on!

I really really really don't understand why they bothered shutting down a perfectly good set of forums on this board and replacing them with something a new user struggles to get in, I really don't.

Glad you're persisting though. BDtS is worthy bit of DLC, especially as there's cost. Well, no dollar cost anyway, your time getting it to work is something else. But it's an interesting story with some stuff that's challenging and some that's easy when you know how and enough variety of conversation options and ways to approach fights with different squadmates that I think it's got fairly high replay value. Hope you get a quick reply from EA but a lot of people said they can take a week or so, which is why Live Chat was always the best option. I realy really really don't know why they ditched that either, but in its absence you may want to just go ahead and just do other missions. BDtS is a tough one for lower level characters anyway and also has some equipment rewards that are extremely rare and far superior at high ranks, so if you're early into an ME1 playthrough it's probably better to wait until Shepard is maybe level 30-40+ anyway.

I do seem to remember seeing that there was a problem downloading this dlc now in the mass effect 1 discussions previously; maybe if you have some free time you could wade back through those. Failing that, tell us exactly what the problem is and we'll pool our resources to try and sort it out for you.

I think the OP has successfully downloaded it but hasn't been able to get it working. Since about a year ago you need to contact EA for a key and that seems to be the hump that's proving hard to get over, especially with apparently no Live Chat support for ME1 anymore.

Maybe you can use this.

I still think Bioware should offer support aswell. As initially you had to register the CD key on their website and they made that cd key page unavailable. Naybe it has something to do with the hack from a while back, but I don't like working with Origin either. They should just make all content available on the Bioware page just like they do for ME2/3 and DA origins and DA2.

Don't understand what's so hard about that. Such a trivial thing that can make such a big difference for the users...

Jeez, they're giving BDtS away for free these days instead of charging for it. It's not like people are going to pirate BDtS to avoid the $0.00 cost, so why bother with making players jump through all the key related hoops anyway?

BDtS for free with CD key right from EA.
an alternate key: BK2S-T7K7-NRZ3-NUK5-W7YL or C6KKRJD4BBHTHX9KH49H

Just one thing to be aware of on that link:

help.EA.com wrote...
If you receive a “You have reached the activation limit.” message, you will need to use the Contact Us feature on our site and we will be able to unlock it for you. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

And that may be the OP's problem. There are a finite number of valid codes and there seem to be more legit copies of the game out there than there are codes to activate them. Seems like the way round is to allow codes to be used a certain number of times after which they stop working for future users and there's a message about the activation limit instead. I had this with the Cerberus Network on a fresh DL of ME2, and the live chat guy (or gal, I can't recall) at EA help said something about either resetting the activation limit for the code I was trying to use or increasing it. Either way the code worked minutes later, but the point is it seems like codes have a limited number of uses.

So to cut to the chase, one or more those codes might still work today. And then again they might not, leaving it still necessary to contact EA.

My key expired. (reached the one-install limit after reloading my computer)

I contacted support through Origin and had a new key in just a few minutes. It was literally just a few clicks to get to them.
