Yes. Every non-DLC gift gives 1 single approval point. By using only DLC gifts like cakes from the Feasterday stuff, I never used gifts to up approval (except in the case of special gifts like Allistair's locket or Dalish gloves for Zevran), which meant that my item chest was filled with probably around 50 gifts by the end of the game. It took a ton of item space, but I carried every single one into Awakening and managed to managed to make up the difference thanks to them and maxed Oghren's approval.

so if I carry the feasterday items like cake to awakening I can give them to anyone and het high approval? Does the cake give +1 approval or its normal approval?

NO! Feasterday stuff does NOT carry over. The gifts of the main game do, the DLC gifts don't. Use only DLC gifts to raise approval in Origins and give only unique gifts, carry over all normal gifts into Awakening.

The bug costs you 10 approval points with Oghren. 'Tis enough enough to carry over 10 gifts from DA:O, especially if you get all the ones Dog can find.

Ahhh now I get it... I need to use the dlc gifts to raise his approval in origins and carry over the normal gifts so I can use them in awakening.
