I don't think many here understand what the fuzz is about; this is something different than the other ads, adblock wouldn't help since it's not a pop-up or anything. Just go to http://social.biowar...m/user_home.php and you should understand. It's being presented like it's actual news on one of Bioware's games, right next to news on the Leviathan DLC and the ME3 demo.

I am a little surprised this is the first ad people have noticed on the BSN? I don't see them all the time, but they are pretty common.

If only Alienware laptops did not resemble giant plastic disco spaceships made out of lego blocks, I might consider buying one.

Hey, since you're moderator and all, could you please explain why there are Alienware Ads on BSN? Is this some kind of Spam, or something to improve your gaming experience?

Thanks

Ninja Stan Replied:

No, it appears to be a legitimate ad. I assume the "massive savings" is a pun on Mass Effect.

It's generally not a good idea to be re-posting the contents of private messages.

But yes, the ad appears to be legitimate.

Clicking 'ok' on the Zero Tolerance threat message every week still takes the cake.

Personally, I think the ads are quite clever. It is not evasive, requiring a click to remove like many sites and ads I never intend to see again. The ad itself is alluring, and does link to info that I found rather informative. I got to make the call; not have it thrown in my face like some FPS.

Just wondering, why isn't it not a good idea to re-post contents of private messages?

Clearly there isn't any form of abuse or other offensive content in that private message, so shouldn't it be okay? You answered his/her question that relates to this topic.

I'm sorry, but you really have to ask why you shouldn't repost private messages on the public forum? I'm in shock, truly.

It doesn't matter if it's not against the forum rules, it's common courtesy that you keep private messages between you and the recipient. What megaillusiveman did was not p.c and displayed very bad form.

This isn't the first time advertising space has been available on BioWare forums, it was also done on the original BioBoards as well (Ads by Google).

The Site Rule information is there for a reason... It is there to remind everyone as well as provide additional information.

But in every page? Even when I'm in a thread?

At most, you only need keep it on top of each sub forum page.

This is just ridiculous.

The ad doesn't bother me at all, at least it is not an annoying popup video. If my page view helps Bioware generate a little bit of extra revenue, good for them.

But there is nothing personal in this message though?

If there were personal questions then yeah, don't post it but that message was just answering a question that relates to this thread.

It was just a simple question if they are ad's. Stanley Woo replied 'yes'. Explain to me how this is personal or otherwise could prove to be offensive to Mr Woo?

I really do understand why posting private messages are off limits, but this isn't really a private or personal message. Just a simple question.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the contents and everything to do with the source. If he wanted ninja stan to answer his question pubicly, he could've sent him a pm asking him to please reply to <Linked topic> as soon as he's able.

I agree with Emzamination. It's just not right ethically to publicly post private conversations without the other person's consent, no matter what was discussed.

Indeed, it's really not that bad. Oh, and private messages have private in the name for a reason.

{Not trying to be a wiseacre. I have ad block so I rarely see any ads.}

Yes but adblock doesnt block these unless you tell them too...  well it cant block the one ontop of the news feed at all

Also the worst thing about these ads is the secondary advertisement for Windows 8...

I don't even notice it now. Especially when compared to that pop-up on every. Single. Page. I. Clicked. On.

Also thinking about this ad I think it's fair. It'll allow to EA to make up some of the money they'll lose from me buying their games pre-owned.

I've never had pop-ups on the BSN. Ad-block is your friend.

It contains only 1 line of text regarding Site Rules, the other two lines consist of helpful information and links for members to two resources for getting assistance.

The original version had a full introductory paragraph advising people of the Site Rules changes.
