If you want the maleshep and femshep to look sort of like brother and sister then you need to start up your mass effect 1 or 2 and look at the default femshep there.

I don't but if you put fem shep and male shep side by side they wouldn't look like brother and sister st all. Add to the fact male shep does not show any of those trait and I find it odd. I love me some green eyed red head freckles and all but there does not seem to be any relations to male shep.
I had no idea they were related at all o.O. And also if you look at the default femshep in ME1 and 2 guess what. . .she is a red head with green eyes. Her ME3 incarnation is a bit more stylized than in 1 and 2, but femshep is still femshep.

Because - if the internet has taught us anything - a red headed woman with freckles and green eyes is the ultimate wish-fulfillment/sexual fantasy of far too many men.
Exactly this. Giving that much choice to the fans was BioWare's worst choice in regards of ME3 marketing. The first game in the franchise to feature FemShep on the cover, and thanks to the so-called "geeks" instead of a proper Commander Shepard we got something from a "10 hottest cosplay at this year con" list.

Nope.
This is ME2 default Femshep:

Black hair, blue eyes (just like Sheploo).
ME3 Femshep is a completely different model, which features were (unfortunately) decided by the fans through an official poll.

No that is not. She is Marge, AkodoRyu's custom Shep.

This is the default femshep. Her hair is not as fiery as the ME3 and no freckles, but she is still a redhead with green eyes.

Anyway default FemShep was ME1 default face ported over (without a lot of effort) ME3 carried on that traditional love of the redhead FemShep that we had all grown accustom to as the default appearance.

I think it's strange that they didn't model default fem Shep after a real person like they did with default male Shep.
Well, that's what they should have thought of in the beginning of the production phase of ME 1. But then, as ironic as it may sound, that actually worked in favour of the character. If Bioware would have tried to write her as a female protagonist (and in the process hired someone to model her after) instead of just giving Maleshep an optical makeover, she probably would have turned out to be very stereotypical and chliché'd to the point of being sexist rather than being just a good character that happens to be a woman. I could be wrong, but that has always been my sneaking suspicion. Especially given the rather poor characterization of the females in the first game (although, admittedly, the male counterparts also left a lot to be desired the first time around). Femshep, from a purely conceptional point of view, works because most of the time there's no emphasis on her gender.
Now, by the point of ME2 and in particular ME3 any attempt to shape her semblance after a real live person would have been doomed to failure, judging by the - in some cases absolutely justified (e.g. the unfortunate lack of advertisement featuring Miss Shepard prior to the releases of each game) - outbursts of some of the extremely vocal Femshep advocates. Not that everyone who prefers to play the female version of Cmdr Shepard would have mounted the barricades, but still ...

Okay I got confused with Marge (she's all over the web) but to me those are brown hair.
Also, the red hair thing came from a poll anyway, so it's pretty impossible that they added redhead Shep as a nod to her ME1 look.

Fair enough about seeing Marge everywhere. I always considered that color red. Granted its not super bright and fiery but still red. I have a friend who has a similar type of hair color. In poor lighting her hair looks brown but out in the sun or in a well light room you can see she has red hair, its just a very dark red.

It was a pretty massive event, everyone got to vote what she looks like. I voted for her to look like what she does in ME3, so I'm happy.
