A vote BW wanted to make ME Jane new and improved so they asked us do we like blondes, red heads, brunettes, black, white, hispanic, ect and white blonde fshep won fair and square then the haters went insane demanded she be redhead cuz they're cooler, less ditzy, and less stereotypical and screamed so much and so often BW did a recount whereby the proreds voted who knows how many times and that was how she became a redhead easy.

The look of femshep for mass effect 3 was made by and chosen by the community

If you want the maleshep and femshep to look sort of like brother and sister then you need to start up your mass effect 1 or 2 and look at the default femshep there.

Yeah... pretty much this.

Bioware announced many times that they were going to give femshep a makeover for ME3. There were lots of pictures and votes on facebook.
Turned out most people liked that hairstyle the best. Then there was another round of voting to decide what hair color she should be.

And there you have have it, majority ruled that redhead femshep was default in ME3.

That's not how it worked, it was a majority vote for hair colour, if more people wanted her to be blonde she would've been.

The original fem-shep, in both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, had coppery-red hair. So no change there. Why they didn't model the default fem-Shep's face on a real person in the first place is an odd design choice.

Because - if the internet has taught us anything - a red headed woman with freckles and green eyes is the ultimate wish-fulfillment/sexual fantasy of far too many men.

A vote decided her hair colour. Also, default FemShep has always been a redhead.

Also, redheads are the best.

I have no idea, but i wouldn't want her an other way as she is probably the best female protagonist to ever appear in a game.

i read something somewhere on the great and mighty interwebs about how BW had, because they had no intention to make femshep the canon protagonist and thus put zero effort into creating her character, inadvertandly created the least sexualized and most believable female character in gaming.

something about their neglect allowing the fans to make her the female hero she shoudl have been, instead of the female hero the writers would have made her.

I think it's strange that they didn't model default fem Shep after a real person like they did with default male Shep.

they didn't put as much effort into creating femshep as they did in creating sheploo.

the writers had an image of sheploo in their heads and his appearance and behaviours in the game reflects that.

femshep's behaviours mimic sheploo's... what woman sits like this, while wearing a relatively short dress!?

but... the writers never really put much thought into her appearance... which is what kept her out of chainmail bikini's and allowed the players to make their own female hero.

thankfully they didn't realize what they had until the 3rd game and never really interfered with her until then.  course once they did realize... well, there's a reason ME3's femshep is sporting a solid c cup with "dat ass" while ME1 femshep has an overall figure much closer to your run of the mill woman.

On what grounds do you expect femShep and manShep to look similar? They are not the same person, and certainly not related - in a continuity where femShep exists, there is no manShep.

Same lineage and background. They are the alternate version of themselves which mean same bloodlines. The only difference woukd be XX and XY

it really doesnt matter. if you were determined you could try going into genetics, but any two parents can give any number of different gametes that provide any number of characteristics-- from the information we have, we cannot say that a white, brown- haired, blue- eyed manshep cant bye related to a green eyed, red haired femshep. it's all academic of course because Shepard can have any skin, hair colour, eye colour and gender that the player chooses.

I don't but if you put fem shep and male shep side by side they wouldn't look like brother and sister st all. Add to the fact male shep does not show any of those trait and I find it odd. I love me some green eyed red head freckles and all but there does not seem to be any relations to male shep.

It really isn't that unusual for siblings to look different from each other.

Why should they look like brother and sister? I mean, its not like they are brother and sister after all.

BW felt it was high time to make Femshep on equal ground with Broshep and felt a redesign for ME3 would give her an iconic look (which seemingly worked) Thing is, they went about doing this by putting up several unique Femshep designs that people could vote on. The 5th one with the longish-medium hair that you're all accustomed with now won the poll except for one apparently crucial problem. She was blonde. The backlash from the fanbase due to the results of a frikkin' community poll over the winners hair colour was so extreme that BW had to pull a SECOND contest just to determine her hair colour. Redhead Shep won and the rest was history.

I never got this obsession with people wanting them to be related they're two different characters at best its an AU at worse which shep you pick goes onto glory while the one you didn't died in Akuze, on the streets of Earth, or the Colony.

You should direct that at the ones who screamed and demanded a hair change and bashed blondes in their hestaria making entrire threads to vent their hate and intolerance because they couldn't deal with the fact a blonde won. The revote was unessisary.

It's since of Facebook voting. She's way more red than in ME1/2, but we're lucky she didn't turn blonde:

Then again, who cares, import or edit Shep how you like.

A soldier of course! Thats how i always saw femshep. While very attractive she is a bit of a tomboy because she is totally a soldier.

I would have voted for #4. But since my Shep was male, I didn't vote.

Still, I think it was kind of lame that the initial poll results were tossed out just because the people who didn't like those results demaned a new poll. Bioware should have stuck with the results of the first poll and had Fem Shep be blonde.

To answer the OP's question, FemShep became a ginger because nerds raged.

A lot of people seem to think people were complaining about her being blonde because that makes her a bimbo or something, when I saw more people complaining about the fact it makes her too similar (and therefore a bit generic) to the most famous space heroine in video-gaming history.

Shepard needed to stand out and be instantly recognisable even outside of her N7 armour.

i think alot of the hate was why Bioware felt the need to have a poll in the first place.

it was ME1 and ME2 femshep that became the hero the fans liked... why'd they feel the need to screw around with her appearance when the fans had already established that they were happy with what they already had?

like others said at the time, they basically reduced her character from being a strong female protagonist to a space age beauty pageant contestant.
