A lot of people seem to think people were complaining about her being blonde because that makes her a bimbo or something, when I saw more people complaining about the fact it makes her too similar (and therefore a bit generic) to the most famous space heroine in video-gaming history.

Shepard needed to stand out and be instantly recognisable even outside of her N7 armour.

Wait, who is that?

I'm not joking. I seriously never picked up on the blonde version looking like anyone else, and wonder if I'm missing something that is obvious.

Yeah that was what I saw in most of the complaints and that was the first thing I thought when I saw blonde Shep. If it was as simple as general hate on blondes then that Shepard wouldn't have been picked in the first place, and Samus wouldn't be nearly as popular.

People didn't want Shepard looking like someone who predates her by a quarter of a century, they wanted her to be unique and instantly recognisable.

It's since of Facebook voting. She's way more red than in ME1/2, but we're lucky she didn't turn blonde:

Then again, who cares, import or edit Shep how you like.

would have went for 6 personally, then voted that her hair be red and her skin tone fair.
How do i get to use custom avatars on this forum?
I hope the next Mass Effect allows you to pick your ethnicity if you decide on being human, make it similiar to how Fallout 3 did it.

I voted for nr 1 as well. Wish it was possible to get it as dlc or something.

She looks like decent on the cover art, but in game she looks awkward.

Hell, they tried to give Femshep a model's look and they still screwed it up. She doesn't look like a soldier and she doesn't look a model.

WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?

A shame, I would love a ginger freckled bro!Shep. For some reason there's this general assumption that while ginger women can be (or are) hot, ginger men are to be hated or pitied. ._. I have made a few ginger bros but alas, not freckles.

Dem ducklips. -_-

My fave femShep was (1) - the one with the dark hair that was 'growing back in'. Looked awesome. I decided I wouldn't mind anything else winning out SO LONG AS that hair was in game.

...it wasn't.  <_<

I agree with you about the short hair. I would love to have seen that style in the game. Accurate representations of the others wouldn't have hurt, either.
Another BW oversight for the list.

Yeah this is what I don't understand.  I have found several face codes online that do a great job of approximating the concept art in game.  And yet Bioware created someone that doesn't really match.  Well at least thanks to gibbed and texmod I can use the default hair and freckles on all my Sheps now <3.

She was always a redhead. Redheads have that special temperament that makes them seem ideal for kicking ass.

Us redheaded males on the other hand... sad face.

Even though I'm a daywalker, and one of the ultra-rare Redhead with Brown eyes. There are only 500,000 of us in the world you know.

Fans chose it, and BioWare implemented it. Then completely forgot about it when it came for the Trilogy collection to come out (still not sure if there was a reason behind that).

Something feels off about default FemShep. I like red hair and the freckles, but the way it was implemented in game is off. She doesn't look much like the picture on the box and the Take Earth Back FemShep looks like she could be default FemShep's Rock and Roll Goddess older sister.

She looks too young in game, and has a stare that says something along the lines of "you're going to be in the freezer in my basement".

I don't but if you put fem shep and male shep side by side they wouldn't look like brother and sister st all. Add to the fact male shep does not show any of those trait and I find it odd. I love me some green eyed red head freckles and all but there does not seem to be any relations to male shep.

Brother and sister? huh? Why would they need to look the same? Both can't exist in one game anyway.

They really screwed up on the facial structure. Her lips especially protrude a lot.

Because I voted for the redhead since I didn't want a Samus clone. Others seemed to have agreed with me.

Anyone else see Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham), Winona Ryder, Natalie Portman, and Uma Thurma (a la Pulp Fiction) here?

Become? She was always a redhead.

And I can't believe someone thought a black-haired FemShep was the default one. Never been into ME1 CC then?

Apart from the hair color, what we voted for and what we got has almost nothing in common Posted Image
In-game default FemShep bears very little resemblance to the portrait we voted on.

freckles and all yet male ship has no freckles or red in him. Fem shep eyes are also green and have duck lips that protrude outword while male shep does not show such deformities.

She died in the beginning of ME2 and was restored without a soul = ginger.
